id be happy with eicas logic that knows it’s normal to have doors open on the ground with engines shutdown and abnormal if engines are running

Maybe the bigger issue isn't crew differences / split fleets but BCA just doesn't want to spend the money (and the delay) to implement it.

During the recent Q&A video, BJ said that he believes Boeing will get the extension it needs from Congress for certification. He believes it will be certified later in 2023. “It takes about six months from the time it is certified to put it into the schedule for ourselves. So, if we fly a Max 7 in 2023, it’ll be late in the year, or it could be early in 2024.”
We will continue converting our orders from the 7 to the Max 8 and according to AW, “we can tolerate that in our network, at least in the next year into 2024.”

Does BJ know that Congress is basically out of session beginning December 16? Like, as of yesterday?

It just takes enough greasing of the skids and the holidays make an excellent time for Boeing to shower a plethora of "fact finding" trips on lawmakers and their families, host holiday fundraisers for their reelection campaigns, and otherwise wheel and deal with congress while they are not in session.
There's a reason that Boeing (over the years) has moved it's HQ twice. First from Seattle to Chicago then to Washington DC because like it or not, our federal government is more consequential on this conglomerates success than any one particular customer.

The "deadline" was a congressional law. Congress can meet next year and write a law changing that deadline for the MAX if it chooses. They prefer to tack it on to other big legislation as it takes most of the focus off of the issue at hand if it's just a paragraph attached to a $880M defense bill. But ultimately, they can create a standalone bill next year, or attach it to some other boondoggle they'll concoct.
