You serious, Clark? I’ll make more lancing than I will as a senior FO and most captains that just fly the line. I’d lance for 5 years if the company would allow it. Better than being at the bottom of the CA list sitting 4-day weekend reserve. Plus the dudes on the ramp and at airport food joints call me “Cappy” right now. I don’t need to wear 4 stripes full time to feel like I’ve made it.
I’m a BWI FO and expect to hold “real” CA before the end of next year…. Which will be 8 years, 4 months.

The thing about being plug Lance in LA or any other junior base is that all that needs to happen to turn your sweet deal into a nightmare is for someone to say "I think I want to lance" and they will displace you as soon as their training is done. F that. Unless you can hold Lance or Captain somewhere else OR if you live in socal, that LA junior lance slot is a sucker bet. You can end up ETOPS locked into a crappy commute and no lance captain star.
I plan on upgrading in May (also June 14 hire) Should be a fun time. Hopefully enough cheese will have moved by then to allow me to avoid an etops lock and hold a line somewhere.
Also hope that the earth doesn't decide to end again prior to that date.

opening a BNA or STL base would help with that

Denver still has a lot of growing to do. They are still playing the shell game with the extra gates they picked up. I think it is going to trend very junior for a little while. As they add flying (and bodies) in the spring, look to Denver and PHX to absorb a lot of that.
This is where I think I am going to be able to hold a line soonest without the etops lock and it is a very convenient commute for me (other than the hotel shuffle there).
For me, commuting to captain reserve is a virtual tie with being a senior FO. I can work the same number of days and make the same money (for now) but as a captain have zero control over my schedule. The only benefits to upgrading at this point is that if the music stops I am a captain and the sick trips pay captain rates. Other than that, there is very little incentive for commuters to upgrade to weekend reserve.
