I’m a BWI FO and expect to hold “real” CA before the end of next year…. Which will be 8 years, 4 months.
If you're not on the Captain list you're not defined as a Captain for purposes of determining upgrade time. Sure LC is a sweet gig, but its temporary and simply doesn't count because its artificial and solely a SWA "quirk".

The thing about being plug Lance in LA or any other junior base is that all that needs to happen to turn your sweet deal into a nightmare is for someone to say "I think I want to lance" and they will displace you as soon as their training is done. F that. Unless you can hold Lance or Captain somewhere else OR if you live in socal, that LA junior lance slot is a sucker bet. You can end up ETOPS locked into a crappy commute and no lance captain star.

I plan on upgrading in May (also June 14 hire) Should be a fun time. Hopefully enough cheese will have moved by then to allow me to avoid an etops lock and hold a line somewhere.

Also hope that the earth doesn't decide to end again prior to that date.

Hell, I don’t care if I’m the plug and sitting weekend rsv. I’m staying put as a FO til I can hold my base in the left seat. DEN is fairly junior…just need people to be able to hold their bases out east first vs doing the west -> east shuffle.

opening a BNA or STL base would help with that

I've been hearing rumors that some airline was going to open a BNA base longer than I've been an airline pilot.... Still waiting almost 20 years later.

We had pilots at the BNA party does that count. (I am not taking about the ones outside the party picketing )

Denver still has a lot of growing to do. They are still playing the shell game with the extra gates they picked up. I think it is going to trend very junior for a little while. As they add flying (and bodies) in the spring, look to Denver and PHX to absorb a lot of that.

This is where I think I am going to be able to hold a line soonest without the etops lock and it is a very convenient commute for me (other than the hotel shuffle there).

For me, commuting to captain reserve is a virtual tie with being a senior FO. I can work the same number of days and make the same money (for now) but as a captain have zero control over my schedule. The only benefits to upgrading at this point is that if the music stops I am a captain and the sick trips pay captain rates. Other than that, there is very little incentive for commuters to upgrade to weekend reserve.
