That's was because Walter Mondale (Dem candidate) was from Minnesota and had been a state senator for 12yrs prior to becoming Carter's VP, and although their term was widely considered an economic disaster during Carter's presidency, enough Minnesotans still voted for him.

As a black person, when you have not many who look like you in the field and then when your own community sometimes might categorize you as “acting white” “token” or whatever whenever you’re doing something successful and on your own, it adds another layer of adversity. So the people you call tokens are actually fighting two battles to some degree.

Minneapolis, St Paul, Rochester, and Duluth ruin it for everybody else. But you can always count on Minnesota to deliver just when things start cooling down. Fernando Castile, George Floyd, Kim Potter. Up until Derek Chauvin, the only cop to get busted for a high profile shooting was Mohammed Noor who blew away the Australian lady who called the police to report a noise in the alley behind her house. Well done Minnesota. I don’t know about any of you guys but, I’m excited for what’s next.

When Minneapolis gets a CHOP/CHAZ, let me know. Burning down the ghetto because a cop murdered a black man is childs play compared to what's still happening in Portland.

I did say arguably, which implies there is room for discussion. Portland is a unique place in its own right for sure but as of now, they are not openly racist in their union policies like Minneapolis school board is.

Minneapolis could have had a CHOP/CHAZ zone if they hadn't burned down the area where it would have been established.
I remember my first trip ever to Seattle about 15 yrs ago. I felt out of place because I wasn't dressed in all black and grey's. And didn't have my man purse draped over my shoulder.
