See? In a perfect world race and gender wouldn’t matter especially when it comes to a highly safety sensitive job like ours. Unfortunately, that’s not reality.

If airlines are hiring simply because of race/gender then that’s sad. I hope they would be looking more at the skills, training, etc and then if they happen to fit the quota then that’s a plus, but it shouldn’t be the sole reason to hire someone.

The thread went off the rails because of dehumanization. Was not a civil war fought over this? The problem is that people have allowed politics to come in between basic human rights and it now has blurred that line. The left or right and political extremism is actually where we have failed as a country. We have gotten so political it’s destroying everything…including this thread.

Have you been paying attention?! Wait a minute. Are you even a Part 121 pilot?

Come spend a little time at SWA so you can soak up some of that persistent DEI propaganda that’s getting shoved in our faces literally daily.

You know how when the conservative right pushes their beliefs on you it makes you revolt? Well, the wokeism is literally a daily freight train that never stops. As a mostly live and let live libertarian, that incenses me to no end.

It especially incenses me that even this company makes it a point to go after minorities and women first to fill their pilot slots given the fact that we supposedly are responsible for a 1.6 billion dollar liability (or whatever figure they’re peddling at the schoolhouse this week) whenever we take a Guppy into the air.

Instead of hiring the most qualified PERSON who will also be an enjoyable coworker to be around for three days, they’re more interested in hiring the right skin color and gender. If that’s isn’t some outright sexism and racism then I don’t know what is. Actually, come to think of it, it’s the definition of sexism and racism but as we all know that’s okay as long as it meets the ideologies of wokeism.

Excuse me while I go sulk in the corner with my “white privilege”.

I can tell you first hand from my experiences of talking with minority captains who have been here a while, they are the ones vehemently objecting to this "virtue-signaling effort by white progressives" because they imply that the minorities aren't capable of certain things without their help. In short, you're disparaging their achievements and accomplishments in life because they made different choices. And these progressives are so tone deaf, they just drive on their agenda without stopping to even listen to the people they're supposedly trying to help.

RJS gets it .

Yeah. There's a huge difference between saying "we're going to give women and minorities an equal/fair chance" and "we're going to preference women/minorities to make our numbers better".

Hasn't anyone noticed all the class stats this hiring cycle with the special emphasis on how many women/minorities were hired? Is it coincidence that women/minorities always seem to land in the front row of those training class pictures? I think not.

What is more human than making sure the customers and employees of Southwest have the safest experience possible? Protecting life, safety, is humanizing, no?

This thread is about the potential negative consequences of hiring pilots based on genetic, demographic features.

The thread went off the rails because addressing this specific safety concern is not tolerated, investigating and discussing the possibilities is not acceptable.

If we can not address safety concerns openly — well, then, I’d say we have some cultural problems. Seems fairly dehumanizing to me…attempting to invalidate because you are too insecure to think that your ideas may not be correct.

Now that’s something I definitely agree with. Minorities don’t need the white savior complex. They want opportunities, but the liberal push weakens most minorities plans on being independent. As long as you don’t deny opportunities, I think that’s what most people want.

We are not as it happens. But you need to be civil or you'll take a break.
