No transportation at layover waiting upon reaching the curb? Uber black at block-in (aircraft block in) plus 30 minutes and expense. No questions asked and funds show up in your checking account within 72 hours. Transportation company (layovers in excess of 14 hours are not at an airport hotel so private transportation companies used) not there at hotel at pickup time? A chat icon on each pilots iPad for the flight number opens and you simply type in that you are waiting for transportation at the hotel and will get there once the transportation arrives (we don’t Uber TO the airport if transportation is late as this is their problem). This chat is monitored by the customer service team working the flight, flight attendants, operations staff (or hub operations for the zone your departure gate is located within). They make things happen when they realize we aren’t securing our own ride TO the airport (to be honest, this rarely happens). On the topic of CSRs or ops people/FAs questioning the CPT; it very rarely happens. They give us a pretty big rope at UAL and and very seldom question a decision we make. Sometimes we make poor decisions but that is on us.
For the above that I enjoy daily as a captain at UAL, I thank the UALALPA of years past who set the precedent. Sure, we just torpedoed a TA that was negotiated by some out of touch negotiators and the chairman resigned last week. I wouldn’t compare UALALPA to your snack eating captain though. Sorry.
I just had my denver scramble on a SAT-IAH the other day. All of this is pretty accurate. I actually also had a spoiled meal and got myself a steak later that night that was fully expensed which was nice. Can't change my schedule to save my life though as a coastal 737 FO like it seems SWA people can.

There are so many things that can be improved, and absolutely should be here. But the ability to change your schedule every month to what you need is actually pretty great. And if you want a premium trip to make some extra cash real quick its there to be had. Still lots to improve, but there are good things at SWA.

I would *NOT* come to UAL for the free food. There may be some novelty to it if you’ve worked at a place without crew meals, but honestly the food is one step above purina dog chow. Lots of disgusting rubber chicken with the pressed on fake grill marks, etc. The upside, as he mentioned, is if it’s gross you just exercise self help, obtain food somewhere, and expense it. Unless it’s an incredibly unreasonable expense the company pays, no questions asked. I actually think they expect a certain level of expensing, but, like the “snack guy” mentality, enough people eat the cheap slop that the company feels no need to provide quality.

My crew meal is unavailable on those flights and I expense a replacement meal in Houston. For safety of flight reasons, there isn’t enough time to eat and safely manage the flight on those short 20 minute legs. I’m not one of those pilots who gets my tray at 10,000 feet on climb out - that’s a recipe for an altitude bust. A lot of times the FAs aren’t even ready for a quick meal service and you get your “dinner bell” at T/D.

If they ever start denying it, well, then I’ll still get a meal in Houston, even if the next flight is delayed. Nutrition is a safety of flight issue.

Plus, Midland and Fresno overnights!

And, don’t forget, industry-bottom disability insurance.

I’d rather fly to MAF or FAT myself than outsource it to RJs like AA and United do
