The simple fact of the matter is that you have to work to make money in this business. There's not mailbox money coming to you from your job. If its not sitting at home with my family its work. So if we have to go out and do it, you might as well enjoy it while your doing it and work with great people. SWA still has that going for it. I know all you sour grapes are going to say that the culture is dead, but its really not. Its different during negotiations for sure as the pilots are mad at management right now (for good reason). But by and large everyone you interact with while at work at SWA is pleasant and makes the job easy. Thats why people keep coming to fly here.

I looked at a UAL 777 mid seniority FO bid pack for similar reasons. Whether I wanted to do it or not, there’s something to be said for flying half of one longish leg, eating a first class meal when the RFO is in the seat, laying over for 30 hours and flying one leg back.
even if it’s not your cup of tea, it’s an option you won’t have at SWA anytime soon and maybe ever.

I looked at a United 787 bid pack. It looks way more chill then one of our absurd AM or PM lines. One leg from DEN-FRA is less time on the flight deck than one of my normal duty days on the 737. I just finished a 4 leg a day, 3 day that was all max duty with 4AM lobbies. I doubt there is heavy flying that is much harder than that. Im sure there is a reason heavy flying is more senior than narrow body captain.

The trips are either starting stupid early or finishing stupid late. Annoying....

Now even the most dedicated morning person isn’t happy getting up at 2:30 for a 4:30 push. Even the most die hard night owl is exhausted when they roll into the hotel at 3am. There’s little time to exercise or eat a healthy meal. Its basically 💩, shower, shave, sleep and back to the airport.
