The first time I sat in the jumpseat of an MD-80 I didn’t know there were fold-down foot rests. My dangling legs were numb by the time we landed in Chicago. Captain got a good laugh out of it. I was, at that time, the very definition of fake it till ya make it.

Also flew a wide-body once. In college. Her name was Shelly. She was hotter than a car seat in August and thicc with two “C’s”🤘😝🤘 She smelled like menthol cigarettes and probably gave me hepatitis but she made me into a man. I just wish I could have made an honest woman out of her. She’s in the federal penitentiary now. The law doesn’t take too kindly to exotic bird smugglers.

Default JS Question

The 737 w/the child safety seat installed actually comes from the factory with a footrest, you know, just like the 707 and 727. It makes that seat SO much better.
Strictly conjecture on my part, but I am guessing SWA had it removed to put the OPC charger there and then just decided to go with that.
That second JS sucks until you need it. Then it rocks. All you big talkers sure don't seem to mind it when you are headed home! I would rather sit there than in a middle between two sweaty Texans.

Agreed, first post gold right up there.

Second JS on a 73 is not fun on a 100 knot RTO. But I did get a seat in the back two hours later after half the pax went home crying.

So what I'm hearing is that there is a warehouse near Area 51 filled with jumpseat foot rests, window shades, fuel totalizers, printers, copilot wiper switches, glareshield transmit buttons, and FD seat cushions that were manufactured in the last decade?

Actually it's not that we're too good for the 2nd jump, it's that we've ridden the second jump on the Bus and we know how good it COULD be if Boeing didn't care so much about pilot comfort. 🫤

This is exactly right. They are not badmouthing Boeing, they are taking their shots at SWA.
And like the j.s., the company may have it's downside, but living at base as an f.o., and not totally killing myself at all, I'll clear well over 300k this year.
and, as someone once said, i don't have to wear a jacket that makes me look like an officer on the Titanic, or have to sit thru painful 5 kt taxi's etc.

Uh, you do get paid by the minute to some extent no? Do you prefer the just under V1 taxis of yesteryear?

Well, there’s always the alternative. I was at CAL before SWA. Nothing is worse than the second Jumpseat except showing up to the gate to find out the one Jumpseat on the 800 is taken. I’m glad they at least paid for the extra seat (which has always surprised me.) The former AirTran ones all have 1 I believe.
