Cheyenne, not Casper. I doubt FedEx is involved directly so not surprised you'd know. But according to an ALPA chat, autonmous flight is the goal of these FAA tests and FedEx lent the airplane to be used. 2nd hand info I have, so take it for what it's worth.

2nd hand…though, Smart keeping the data out of the sole clutches of commercial entities who are only willing to share the success cases.

Left for corporate
My story is unique and my corporate job is one of those that are in the top 10% in my opinion. Everyone has to make their own decisions based on their unique circumstances. I truly wish and want the best to all my buddies still at Southwest. I hope y’all get an awesome contract. I made clear in my resignation letter that I am optimistic for Southwest but management needs to get their act together in these unprecedented times (pilot shortage).
That’s my .02. I just wanted you all to hear from the source and not just a rumor.

What? If it was truly testing pilotless aircraft (I'm sure it wasn't) then of course Fedex was involved. You really think the FAA has personnel qualified to fly the MD11? It's not a 737. And I doubt Fedex ever "loans" an active aircraft to anyone ever.

not sure if i’m the guy your fo was talking about but i was a 12/14/2021 hire and returned to my previous corporate gig in april. Loved all the crews i flew with in my short time at southwest but i’m older than average new hire and after getting jerked around by southwest. (among other things…had two do a second checkride after i passed the first time because it turns out my examiner wasn’t qualified to do a type rating; passed again the second time, had pay issues never resolved after repeatedly told by mgt “we’ll take care of this”, then an assistant chief pilot who tried to treat me like a child on a commute issue after my car broke down and my commute flight canceled same day and after i worked things out with scheduling, i just went with the “life is too short to be unhappy” counsel). I don’t think the asst. Chief was expecting a probie to tell him…” i’m done with southwest’s empty promises, i quit”. I must admit it was very therapeutic to tell him that but i’ll also admit it was tough to walk away after going through all the training and thinking of all the incredible people and crews i met and highly respect.

Wow. Best wishes. I’m sorry your experience was garbage, but good for you for standing up for yourself and having the option to head back to a better gig.

I have to admit, if I have to apologize to another customer this summer…I might hit submit on a couple Cargo apps. The only thing keeping me here now is the unstable economy and volatile markets. There has to be another FO that feels the same, this is not the same place it was prior to the MAX incident. I’m getting educated about my decisions…it’s been embarrassing with the meltdowns and this summer will be the same. Never thought I would be saying this.
