Saying a plane other than a 737 will be on property in 15 years is not at all a gamble or lie. Boeing is done with this dinosaur after the MAX. I’m sure Bob and the gang would love a MAX NG to be developed, but it ain’t happening. SWA will be flying something other than a 737 in 15 years.

Just heard straight from the COO at the training center. Sounds like the plan is steady growth and rebuilding for the next couple of years and then eventually pushing expansion. New bases will eventually come and possible second fleet type at some point down the road. Sounds like they don’t want two airplanes doing the same mission, so no A220/737 combo. They said it’s more efficient to have two fleet types that have two different missions. That’s the latest I’ve heard. No mentions of 787/797 but he did say it’s inevitable that a second type would come over the next 10-15 years.

Why? We’re not going to have one for many years to come unless we buy an Airbus operator with just too many to get rid of.
The other great thing about not having rates for a second type is that when (if) they eventually place an order for one, they’ll be more motivated to negotiate rates for it knowing that it’s coming down the pike.
