I’m posting a similar thread in both the Southwest and Delta sections and hoping to get some feedback from both sides.
I live in Dallas and I am looking for some thoughts on which airline would be the better fit. I do love living in Texas, all of our family is here. I figure that after a couple years one could be based at Love and gain seniority over time at SW and have an great career making plenty of income. On the other hand, Delta is a great company with the variety of flying different aircraft, international WB, and currently has a positive spacing agreement for commuters. There is no telling how long that will stay part of the contract, however, I would not mind commuting to say Atlanta or possibly moving there in the long run.
After looking at both the 2019 and 2021 Salary Survey Southwest pilots were doing very well and if you wanted to work you made quite the income. Does the TFP outline play a big factor in that income in comparison to the rates at other airlines?
Are upgrade times anything to take into consideration between the 2 companies? It seems like SW movement is not near as fast as some other legacies. Also, are you happy with flying the 737? Do you wish SW offered more variety in fleet type?
Thanks for any feedback.

Two of the “big 3” have bases in Texas within driving distance from you. Go to SWA and then apply to United or American if you still have a desire to fly more than just the 737 over the next 25+ years and want to be able to drive to work doing so.

Delta is the filet on the menu right now. It's the airline that's doing it all right, growing with lots of movement. Retirements are never ending. Quick upgrades... you name it. However, Southwest is a steady ship. Boring to say the least right now. Seemingly aloof to many issues that other airlines are moving on. I can say this without a doubt. The economy will take a turn at some point and it will happen very quick and it will hardly be predictable. Southwest will continue to motor along as we always have and the majors will suffer the most. The Southwest furlough letter really hurt us and set us on the stage with everyone else, but in all reality... I'd rather be at Southwest over the next economic downturn than any where else. Just food for thought. and yes... you'll most likely be an FO flying the 737. Go to Delta and hopefully you will move up quickly, get enough people below you to prevent furlough and you should be fine. Hope you like hats...

What’s to say Southwest doesn’t furlough during the next downturn? We are no different than anyone else, no matter how many deck parties the GO throws themselves. If the 1221 didn’t prove that to the koolaid enema crowd, I dunno what will.
I guess we are different when it comes to pay rates and uniform allowances and LTD/STD and paid parking and crew meals and window shades and printers and hotel language and…..

Added one to the list this week.
Newhire FA came from Alaska. She said "what happened to all of the cockpit door stops, and where did they find all these tiny bungee cords?!!"
