We should say at the outset, we appreciate hiring experienced pilots. It's great. That said, when a class for an airline has an average age of nearly 50 for their new-hires...you have a candidate problem. You are not being chosen as a career destination by those with the most years ahead of them.
Our newest class is a warning symptom that the patient is sick. We ignore at our peril. Again, this is no offense to our new hires, we are thrilled to have you, welcome aboard. We hope we can turn this place around for you.

I think so. I was 38 when I started in 2016 and definitely in the younger 3rd of the class. Gotta figure most of the many of the military guys have just put in 20 years of service, and the corporate guys just take longer to get hired. Only really young ones getting hired are the regional FOs with a few thousand hours.
