It looks like there Alaska pilot group might be getting a clue: Alaska Airlines pilots schedule strike-authorization vote for May.

Maybe we’ll also get a clue?

I just bought tickets on Alaska for July. Guess I should cash in some SWAG and buy backup tickets on us just in case things move quickly at Alaska.

You have almost zero need to worry about that. Alaska Airlines management filed for mediation in November 2021. There is almost no chance the NMB would release the Alaska pilots and management into a cooling-off period until probably sometime in 2024 (at the earliest). There is no defined period for mediation in the RLA but the courts have hinted at the timeframe.

A strike authorization vote at this stage of the game is just a part of playing the game. If the vote comes out strongly in favor of authorizing a strike, it’s simply saying to management, “We are unified around the idea of going on strike when the time comes. If you allow it to get to the point where the NMB might release us without meeting our demands, you will very likely face a strike.” Both Alaska’s pilot union leadership and Alaska’s management know there’s virtually no possibility of going on strike right now. But it’s an important move (assuming the vote is successful) in what it communicates to Alaska’s management.

Here’s another interesting development we are likely to hear about this week on the hotel shuttle and at the hotel restaurant.

“Delta announces it will pay its flight attendants for boarding time in addition to their duty time. This is a game-changing, pioneering move that will add $4K+ to the airline's flight attendants pay. “

Pay should start 30 minutes before ETD and end 15 minutes after E/ATA. Dummest thing ever we don't get paid for what is probably the busiest part of my day.

10 out of 30 in tomorrows class? is that "within 1 standard deviation" of where they want to be?

I think the word isn’t “deviation.” It’s “drift.”

What's actually going on? Are the classes full of sim instructors or are they having a ton of no-shows?

There’s a myth that sim instructors take seats in new hire pilot classes. They don’t. 20 new hire pilot seats weren’t filled. What’s going on? Leadership is about to figure out they can’t short our contract.

Instructors aren't showing up either.
