I keep seeing people throwing around this "follow the science" as a pejorative. But I don't honestly believe that it should be. If you remove all of the alphabet organizations and governments, the actual people who are studying this bug have followed the scientific method from day one, and modified their guidance as they test hypothesis and observe the results. That's why we aren't spraying our groceries down with Clorox anymore. The more they have learned about how the virus spreads the more they have been able to fine tune the guidance. When the virus mutates and becomes either more virulent or more transmissible they have modified their guidance. They've reached a point where, as long as hospitals aren't being overrun, they have told the vast majority of the global community that they can use their own judgement with regards to masks. I'm just a pilot but isn't that exactly how science works? Observation, experiment, measurement, hypothesis and then right back to observation and do it all again?

In all likelihood we're a few weeks away from losing the masks on the airplanes. There's no need to demonize the smart people who have been trying to help us understand this bug from the beginning. And by smart people I am definitely not talking about politicians, certain news media, or podcast hosts.

Yeah right!! Also, if the company and SWAPA are following the so called science like they claim when all this broke, then why was SWAPA not jumping up and down on table demanding that mask must be worn in the crew lounges? After all it was about saving lives was it not?? I know they were told about it. Also SWAPA reps are in the crew loungers all the time, they could see no one was wearing mask in the lounges. I tell you why, because they did not believe this BS worked either, but because they had gone full woke, they just did what they were told.

So I guess all the chiefs in the lounges did not like following the rules either?? Just do as we say not as we do, is that it?

I’ll take my chances, I don’t wear it after TSA. I’m seeing many more who are as well.
I don’t even wear it through TSA and they don’t say anything. I’ve also started to see crew and pax maskless and it’s heart-warming. Time to start pushing back. Long past time actually.

I do strongly disagree with you that SWAPA has gone woke and was for the mandate though. That’s simply not true but I’m not here to argue about it. Yes, I’ve talked to SWAPA reps and they are strongly against masks and mandates.

You're completely wrong about SWAPA on both counts, but whatever fuels your outrage endorphin feedback loop and makes you feel better. They have never supported either the vaccine mandate or the mask rule. Find me a statement supporting either one. It doesn't exist.

You do you, just know that when pax who are obeying the rules see pilots not obeying the rules, it isn't a good look. I guess when someone gets on the plane, refuses to wear one, and starts mouthing off, it's all good, right?

I could care less about whether they wear a mask on board my flight. Mouthing off or being belligerent is another story.

Thats your opinion, mine is SWAPA has lost all credibility. No finer example than the pilot who got fired recently over a mask altercation,I bet he begs to differ.

So do you wear mask in the cockpit all the way up until the door closes? And do you put it on before the door opens at the gate? Do you wear your mask all the time when your in pilot lounge? I continue to defy the mask policy and have been now for almost month.

i just hung out with one of our reps for five days straight. Unfortunately, in the SJC mask/bar altercation the pilot pushed the FA (the FA was acting very aggressively towards him. Because he got “physical” with the FA, the company fired him.

All the other crewmembers sitting at that table were taken aback at the aggressiveness of the FA but unfortunately the pushing was apparently one sided. I hope to hell he gets his job back 🤞

Dude, read what I wrote. You are mistaking me for someone who thinks masks are still necessary right now.

You are defying a rule that our customers have to abide by. They aren't idiots. They notice.

"For me, but not for thee" or does that just apply when politicians do it?

Giving your middle finger to the man is something best done when not on company time. Not everyone feels the same way you do. By doing it in uniform, you are representing this pilot group and the company.

SWAPA claims they have video evidence, well let’s see it. Right now I do not believe anything SWAPA says. They have painted themselves into a corner from the beginning of this whole sham. Mask, Vaccines, they talk tough, but nothing gets done. All these little petty lawsuits and they just get thrown out. We spend 1 million dollars on GSE fund for SWAPA reps to run the DC, and hob knob with Nancy and the gang. What do we get out of it???? You don’t have to believe to me just look it up under SWAPA latest budget proposal.

Dude do you wear the mask in the cockpit up until the door closes? That’s the rule. Also do you wear the mask before the door opens? It’s the rule. If your not then don’t preach to me about rules. Also the rule says and CO RBF says you must wear in crew lounges. Do you wear in the lounge at all times. That is the rule. I have never followed those rules from beginning.
