You’re not asking me but…
the dude clearly thinks his company is forcing him to wear it. If you see a woman being raped on the street in broad daylight. do you intervene? Do you call 911? Do you have the slightest amount of disgust that someone is being raped? Or do you say to yourself, “doesn’t affect me, keep walking I guess.”
That’s why. It’s an at least perceived, possibly true, injustice.

Just spent a week there; I saw about 3 masks (1 person in training, 2 staff members). Also saw a guy wearing white new balances with jeans. None of them particularly bothered me. #freedom

Masks are not worn in the cockpit. Also, when masks have been required at LEAD the full motion simulators have been exempted from mask requirements because of the air systems in the simulator.

So if an FO wants to wear a mask up until engine start and pack operation, is there going to be a problem? I know it's impossible to answer for every crew there, but I'm just trying to gauge the temperature.

If you want to wear a mask knock yourself out. I personally think masks are a safety of flight issue. I will not wear one with the door closed. If a Capt asks me to wear one he can forget it or have me replaced.

Of course this is true about any subject, from political topics du jour to how early/late you call for flaps. Definitely not a place to sweat what the dude next to you thinks.
