Yeah, I know you’re at the bottom of the list for premium…also still a tool.

I hope you feel this strong about someone who picks up POT during the picket .

Its not so much working over vacation, its working over a coveted summer vacation. No-one cares that people work over a vacation block, they just wish they wouldn't use the summer blocks or holiday blocks, when someone wanted those.

Take a look at how many July floating vacation weeks went unused and maybe those weeks aren’t so coveted?

Excellent point. If it were all about the precious time off, folks would covert their vacations to floaters.

Can you explain how floating vacation works for a new hire? Last time I read the contract I don’t recall it being very clear, thanks!

I understand that. But in my head it’s like complaining about someone that’s senior to you getting awarded a trip or a line because of their seniority. It’s THEIR vacation. They can spend it how they want. I’m taking a vacation later this year. Currently, don’t have vacation on that week. Doesn’t matter, I’ll make it happen. I’ve taken trips and some stuff without vacation here even year one - including a 7 day trip year one. I paid for it the rest of the month. I’m all for changing the vacation rules like swapa proposed. I’d rather bid any two weeks to start. But this is what we got.

If they are available for the month you want vacation ,you can trade from your vacation month for the vacation month you want. The downside is you get no overlap pay. You will still get the overlap drop though. It’s a great deal if you’re concerned about getting that vacation month, not so great for maximizing vacation pay.

Once again this is a great example of people complaining about not getting the month they want but yet they could have it. KTC

instead of dropping the 2 pairings a normal vacation would drop, a floating vacation will float over the lesser paying vacation and drop that one only. Flat pay of 26.25 too, regardless of the pairing pulled. So fewer days dropped and less pay, but more attainable for the junior folks who would not otherwise be able to bid for or trade into a prime week.
