You could give Skeet a million dollars and he would complain about the denomination and the suitcase you handed over to him.
They are not going to shrink this place. That is a guarantee. They have big plans to shake up the industry. Just look at HI right now. On a typical day one could hop across the sky to HI landing on WN planes and never touch the water. They have 16B in the bank and are going to leverage that into running a few out of the market. GK has stated 3rd quarter would have been a nice profit it wasn’t for the Delta variant swoon. He also is on record as 2022 sustained profitability. On a side note has anyone noticed that when there isn’t a party in Dallas on a weekend the operation runs much better?
I’d be more worried about a leveraged buyout right now. You could use the cash and assets as collateral for it. Not like it haven’t happened in the past. I’m sure some corporate raider is already crunching the numbers and making a pitch.

According to Gary Kelly. “Southwest expects a $100 million loss in the fourth quarter despite an increase in bookings for the holiday season.”
Also he is on record saying, “It maybe 2022”. He does not sound full of confidence there by any stretch of the imagination.

I guess you only read the bits you like. The reason for the scale back is because they literally have more demand than supply. The only thing they've reduced is flights, because they out ran their own supply train. 2022 is going to be the largest hiring year in SWA's history and your saying they're shrinking?

Well when you consider we are hiring is to replace people who retired due VSP, or just quit, after the scale back, so we are hiring to replace all those folks, and for the record we are not having a lot luck at that. That’s not growth! That just trying to survive, so we can operate a some what normal schedule, which we have not been able to do, ie, the reduced schedule. How are you growing when your reducing your capacity? ie taking seats out of system.
For the record BTW did you see the interview list last time around? It was 4 pages long. I haven’t seen one with that many people ever. I don’t think they are having issues at all in that department. What they can not do is get them through training as EXTOs are still clogging up the school house. We have a supply pipeline issue, the supply of lift and people. So after the latest debacle they have wisely cut back, I personally don’t think enough, but that is temporary till the supply pipeline is caught up. It’s a classic case of growing too fast for one’s britches.
I’m not a GK fan as a leader, not one bit, but he knows his way around the numbers like nobody else. I trust him on financials, just don’t trust him on doing right for the people.

Okay there is a lot to unpack right there. Your logic makes no sense. You say we are shrinking to 2019 capacity but then above you say all the hiring we are doing is to get us back to where we were in 2019? How the heck are we supposed to be at 2019 capacity if we obviously don’t have the staff we had back in 2019, so of course we are smaller still. We opened up new destinations and have had to thin out the network that we still have to back fill. We still have 24 NGs parked that are not coming back as they are due for heavy MX and it’s not worth it. Have to wait for the MAXs to show up, especially the MAX 7.

Mr.Kelly claims we have rolled back Capacity to 2019 levels.. So are calling him a liar? So your claiming to be more in the know than he? Yeah we are hiring to replace staff not just pilots. Rampers, gate agents, etc. I know you like to think you are the only one SWA needs to move an airplane, but I hate to break it to you, you ‘re not that important in the equation until it’s ready to push off the gate.
I’m saying you are talking out your arse. That’s what I’m saying man. We are shrinking right now because we have supply side issues, not demand side. Once they get that in order we will be expanding like gang busters. That’s the way this industry works. Management is always a day late and a dollar short and reactionary. WN used to be different but now we are the same. We will top 10K pilots and 65K people before you know it.
You are a Debbie downer, I get it. Some people are optimists and some are full of negative energy. You are the latter. You cherry pick fares, you cherry pick news, you most likely cherry pick what your spouse says….it’s all good I guess but let’s keep it to facts here. We will have more people on property by EOY 2022 then we had 2019 EOY. That will happen.
