Working 16 days and getting 140 TFP as an FO vs getting 10% more pay as a captain working 15 days on reserve might be worth it for the flexibility, weekends off, holidays off.

I thought you worked for Espirit.

Prob working working at least part of the weekend, but if you’re doing 180-200…you’re working weekends anyway. With 20-25% rsv coverage, vast majority of trips mid week are going to rsv and yes, they’re taking them as EF or straight to keep the credit coming.

As far as vacation, one man’s trash is another’s treasure. Someone does wants a Feb week for a June…or just burn a sick call at CA pay.

Maybe they can’t hold a 1st class medical…who knows. I know I didn’t sign up for 6 days off a month…even if you get to brag you made $400k as a FO.
Oh for sure. When I do 150 its never less than 15 days a month. And its always weekends if I ever get any sort of Premium. But juniority does that.

Love it when guys tell other guys what they should do over their vacation weeks. I assume these are the same guys that text first year FOs and tell them how to bid on open time trips.

And yeah, I pulled in 165 this month and worked 9 days AND took a weeklong trip with my family. Why? Because I can.

Yep. I get things change and plans fall through….but it’s a garbage move to take a premium week you have no intention of using just so you can try and make some extra $.

I’ve got little kids and would like a week between June-Aug to take them somewhere. Can’t get it, so I make my own vacation with a call to scheduling.

In over 6 yrs here I’ve only worked over 1 week and that was when I was new and the kids were in school in April.

Was in HAwaii with the kids for a few days, now I’m on the Iberian Peninsula with the GF. Life. Not work.

I don't think they were "telling" anyone how to bid.....they were just commenting that the work life balance is out of whack.

And I took the "waste" comment at it's literal meaning. They "waste" a week of vacation by working during it.

I got a June vacation block this year. Traded one week for July and one for spring break. Left me with 2 in June. Probably gonna bid some premium over one of my weeks as well. Sorry not sorry. Could care less about what people assume about my work life balance.

It’s gonna def be hard to give up some of the perks of being a senior FO such as sweet vacation. Even if we switch our vacation to the new system I don’t expect to be able to hold summer weeks as a Captain until 2032 which is when I would be 50% up the list.

No one was asking you to apologize. No one was making assumptions about your work life balance. They are flat out saying you are wasting a vacation week.

Oh, and you won’t be able to hold summer weeks at 50% on the Captain side. Everyone above you will be block bidding them 5 at a time and then humble bragging about it on APC.

Well I mean I DO think that after vacation bidding the upgrades are going to go WAY senior to 2014 again and probably won’t get back to 2014 until summer 2023…and then only ETOPS bases,…

Not saying I’m willing to entertain another wager though… 🤣

No the 50% was the advertised summer week drop for the new vacation system we voted in. Nobody can block bid then. Limited to two vacation weeks at a time, so they were saying it would cause the summer weeks to fall down to 50% of the Captain list. I’d have a better chance of getting summer vacation if we kept it as is through trading. But that’s a dead horse.

Yes, people were making assumptions about people who pick up trips over vacation. Agree to disagree. We have a contract, I work within the boundaries of that contract to benefit my family and me the best I see fit and I don’t make judgements about other union members doing the same. I might get frustrated when seniority causes something to not work out my way, but I don’t say it’s a garbage move, because that’s the system I signed up for.
