I looked it up. 4 bid periods. 9.E.1a

I knew there were some vacation poachers who did that, just didn't know what the penalty was.

Next question is how long is the lock if you voluntarily downgrade?

Might be fun to upgrade and try out some Hawaii flying and then, if the commute is a bigger pain in the butt than expected, downgrade and go back to living the senior life for another year or two.

Yeah, Vegas is one online leg with multiple flights a day between us and Allegiant. LAX has nonstops on AA, but that's too dicey for me between the commute and the hotel situation for sitting reserve.

I'll have to look at the contract, but I believe the lock is for the qual. You would be locked for 6 bids no matter what.

I don't have enough sick trips for a 6 month lock being stuck in OAK.

I thought if you voluntarily downgrade it is a 4 month seat lock. So not long. I could be wrong, because I didn’t take the time to look it up.

Bypass numbers are still the deciding factor. I could see 7 year upgrades, I could also see 10 year upgrades.

Commuting to the west doesn’t seem appealing to a senior east of Phoenix FO doing 150 tfp without even thinking about It.
the point is that United is a much more attractive airline to work for than SWA. In almost every aspects.

Except for executive management. Which is kind of a big deal. SWA culture, union, and management has surpassed United’s in every one of the last twenty years. That won’t be changing anytime soon. Delta and SWA will continue to be best in class. American and United will continue to be the red-headed step children (no offense to the gingers). The more things change, the more they stay the same. Back to SWA upgrades.

my 2 cent is worth exactly same as yours. Don’t like the truth? Then don’t read it. And it’s not about United vs SWA. it’s about how much swa is lagging behind the big 3 and Fedex and UPS. It’s about how our pilot group needs to start finding some self worth and demand a contract that reflect the most productive pilot group in the industry. It’s relevant because how do you expect to get pilots onboard and keep them if SWA contact lacks in very aspects to our peers?

Have you read over the contract comparison and not just pay rates? I have friends and family at United. Anyone who says SWA contract is inferior doesn’t know squat:

1) our trips and duty rigs beat theres
2) our vacation pulls beat theres
3) our works rule TTGA/ELIT beat theres
4) our scope clause beats theres
5) our vacation value beats there’s
6) sick leave accrual beats there’s
7) reassignments beats there’s
8 min days off for reserves/line holders
9) we don’t have PBS

Go to the SWAPA website, negotiation tab, scroll down to contract comparison. My question for all the people talking about how we have it bad. How do you know we have it bad when you don’t even know what we have ?!? Posts like yours show that you don’t !! Maybe you should go to United ….

Are you sure it hasn't changed?

United's management and union cooperated to work out solutions to issues surrounding covid-19 and the vaccine mandate. They also worked out a solution to their covid overstaffing where no pilot was furloughed. Then somehow for the last 6 months they've been hiring in huge numbers. Southwest has managed to hire 0 pilots in the same period.
