I pray this is sarcastic. But, given this pilot group’s proclivities, I assume it’s a genuine assertion that we ought to be perfectly happy with the status quo. If that’s the case, it’s a grotesquely beautiful encapsulation in one short question of why we will not do what needs to be done to achieve better.

Lew, quit being that know-it-all, too-cool-in-his-own-mind, everyone-else-is-dumb, BCG-wearing, fat, greasy, kid with by far the most zits ever we all picked on in high school.
Those kids never convinced anyone of anything, lived in misery, even if they may have been right.
I think you have a valid message, but honestly, your delivery sucks.
You don’t have to convince me - I already agree with you. But there are over 9000 of us who may not have the depth or the understanding of the issues who also vote. Insulting them may make you feel better, but it doesn’t address the problem. Your response above is the classic example of why people like you get tuned out and the pilot group votes the way it does. No one listens to the fat greasy know it all kid for whom everyone else is an idiot.
Step up and compile the list of grievances and start relating to people you’re trashing - you’re a part of this group. JL’s presentations were to the point. He retired. Step up and fill the void.

Like I said, it’s beyond hope. So I vent a little bit and try to save some people who might listen the time of trying to convince folks in this pilot group of what seems like the obvious. Save yourself the trouble. They are beyond convincing.
Isn’t it odd that JL took the VSP? Hmmm.

It’s kind of like the kettle calling the pot black. Fat, greasy kid that you used to pick on in high school? Lol.

I don’t think it’s beyond hope. I do think the delivery can be improved. Plenty people have gripes, and there are lots and lots of people who just don’t even think about certain things until it affects them. For me, one of the decoding factors is LTD/STD because I was shown the LUV in my first year and vowed to myself I’m not even considering voting yes on anything unless it’s addressed. Yet, the great many people, and I was among them, never stops to so much as think about it until it’s too late. I’ve been harping about this in my circles and I bring awareness to it.
To others, it’s Training Scheduling. I haven’t had an issue with them, but apparently many have and it’s definitely worth exposing the issues, bring them to light and aim to fix them.
The list goes on and on... and in my view, all these gripes are worth beating into the ground worse than a twice beaten dead horse. Make people be aware of issues.
I get your frustration. Can’t let it get the best of you. This is our airline, our career, and our future. It’s worth fighting for.
JL is the perfect demographic for VSP. If I were a topped out captain with military retirement and that came about? Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ya!!!!! I do hope that something like that comes about again close to my retirement.

One thing I noticed about my class of hires was that most civilians (like me, and I’m just making a demographics comment here) were members of the Lost Decade—hardened by many of the grievances we had experienced in the 121 industry.
I feel that we hired a good group of airline veterans in 2015, so I’m going to say that I have hope in our future as a pilot group. We aren’t all kids, and for most in my class this was rodeo number two, three, or more.

Pheeee-ew.
Thank you for the clarification. I’m happy that you were being sarcastic. And please forgive my cynicism in your case. It’s just that I’ve seen and heard so many absolutely absurd things during my time at this place, it’s hard for me to believe that someone is sincere when they express anything other than rapt admiration for the squozen balloon theory or the beauty of lower pay rates so as to reduce our personal income tax burden and maximize profitability so that we can benefit from the trickle-down corporate largesse in the form of Kick Tails and additional ways to access Luv Lines.
Reminds me of Rutger Hauer’s tears in the rain speech at the end of Blade Runner: “I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion...” Some truly mind-blowing shtuff goes down here.
