On a different note, it would be nice if the pilot unions could corporate on common issues (A4A like).

Well we were part of CAPA at one point. I agree though.

Paid ALPA dues for seven years back in my regional days. The best thing that happened was sending in my Comair Strike money. The worst thing was seeing our own ALPA people boozing it up at lavish events and having a no-strike contract. I want my money back.

There was plenty of abuse with ALPA at my regional, including double dipping by having ALPA buy trips for committee members to do ALPA work and then having the member pick up premium open time. That was the one time I got really POd and let my feelings be known. Supposedly it was banned but I knew it happened.
Overall I was happier having ALPA than not having ALPA. We had a good contract for a regional airline and I know the company hated it.

Ok, instead of ‘force’ is it better to say that SWA didn’t involuntary come to a union agreement to reduce monthly guarantee hours as did UA and DL?
Hopefully my point is clear. As unpleasant as the threat of furloughs and pay cuts is, it is distinctly better than actual furloughs and pay cuts.

That they failed, doesn’t make the intent any less evil.
Watch what they do, not what they say..... and don’t be a sucker.

Once a pilot becomes an ALPA officer he’s on a two-track career path. Anything he does regarding the pilot group is resume’ fodder for his ALPA career. He’ll throw the pilots under the bus with a sub-par contract just to have a win under his belt to impress Herndon. Additionally, Just in case he needs to use the relationships he’s built as pathways to management, he’ll never truly inflict any real pain on the company/FH, at the pilot’s expense.
What I’ve appreciated with SWAPA is their advocacy for the pilots, and not rubbing elbows with the company or getting involved in political issues that don’t affect us.
