No SCAB's in the UAL ALPA ranks, they've always been treated appropriately. CAL had them but they were purged after the merger (nor were they ALPA).

Don’t know what you mean by “nor were they ALPA”. CAL had lots of scabs in the union, the worst of which was the head of professional standards. I enjoyed watching the purging of the training department. I flew with many scab captains who complained about how UAL was systematically destroying the CAL work ethic and culture. They were never fired from their training positions, they were just not in their protective bubble any more and chose to go back to the line rather than be treated like second class citizens at TK. Those same people never got selected for other training roles or union committees. Of all of the better instructors that CAL had, many are now still working at TK and have all been treated very well by the others.

Actually UAL ALPA did let a few of the SCABs back in .... they were on the SCAB list but wore a pin ... so I called the ALPA office and was told “ ... made a mistake once” . Those few are probably gone now.

So what do you do with a pin wearing forgiven SCAB? You treat them like a SCAB because they are. Worked for me.

We also hired 6 EAL SCABs due to deception and before the EAL List was out ( Boyd, Guido, and I forget the other names).

We inherited more EAL SCABs and the CAL SCABs in the merger.

Then there were the guys and gals willing to go to training before the strike with the understanding that they would willingly cross the picket line when the strike went down. Thank God that ALPA interviewed and held their hands and only 6 of the 570 crossed. Some of them are in the ranks.

Then the company went out and hired 539 more SCABs to train during the strike. ALPA didn’t have to save this group of losers as the strike ended before they turned a wheel. Some of them are in the ranks.

That’s a bit pessimistic. some of the best guys I know are 570s and 539s. I wouldn’t call them losers. Most took advantage of a situation to get trained with no intention of crossing, hoping they would have a job at the other end of the strike. The 570 proved it and I’m willing to bet (however we will never know) that the 539 would have done the same.

ALPA is not magic but it puts a comfortable wall between you and your airline executives. It is helpful to move away from whats good for SWA pilots and at least have a connection to what is good for other pilots.
Good luck either way it goes..
"Management-centric in house union"??? I really think you are tragically misinformed or incredibly disingenuous! The "comfortable wall between you and your airline executives" you speak of is non existent at ALPA carriers on this issue and is firmly in place at the in-house pilot unions. The ALPA represented carriers are the ones that caved to managements whims to take a hatchet to union wages and work rules. The in-house unions such as SWAPA, APA and IPA did not take concessions.

Yep. I count over 1500 outsourced regional jets flying around North America, and not a single one is painted in Southwest colors. I sure see a bunch painted up in the colors of ALPA-represented airlines, though.

As a former RJ guy, I can absolutely guarantee ALPA would sell out scope for something else. Most likely some pay for senior guys and an ALPA officer steak dinner in Vegas.

There will never be heart blue RJs.

Unless they are flown by Southwest pilots on the seniority list.

I don’t think we’d get something that advanced. Maybe they’ll have a steam gauge mod.😁
