No axe to grind with SWA. Happy to hear that the old “speed bump” SWAPA has aged out and the new blood is getting the ship turned.
All the teeth gnashing and saber rattling over furlough notices and such gave the appearance that your representation had let you down.
Sounds like the company union is getting done..Good deal

NONE of that had to do with the SWAPA. This was all about the company. What they did was made many of us hardline union. SWAPA has done a great job through all of this.

Or any regional/lcc/ulcc guy.
Once a pilot becomes an ALPA officer he’s on a two-track career path. Anything he does regarding the pilot group is resume’ fodder for his ALPA career. He’ll throw the pilots under the bus with a sub-par contract just to have a win under his belt to impress Herndon. Additionally, Just in case he needs to use the relationships he’s built as pathways to management, he’ll never truly inflict any real pain on the company/FH, at the pilot’s expense.
What I’ve appreciated with SWAPA is their advocacy for the pilots, and not rubbing elbows with the company or getting involved in political issues that don’t affect us.

I'm no huge fan of ALPA, but an attitude like this is a Syndrome that rhymes with Rock Holm.

We’re not keen on our CEO but are on how our in-house union had represented us the last several years. BIG difference.

We can't choose our CEO but we can sure choose our Union. How is anything you're saying relevant? I don't see anyone defending GK.

I’ve been at two ALPA carriers and did plenty of union work including a trip or two to Herndon plus working recruiting events for non-ALPA carriers to join ALPA. ALPA National plays favorites amongst the carriers it represents.
When we at AirTran wanted to fight for our seniority during the SLI, they essentially yawned and couldn't be bothered. Eff them. Unless you bring in a lot of dues for them then they could care less about aggressively representing you.
Just another bloated political organization.

I couldn’t be more happy with the way SWAPA handled all the concession talks the company was trying to have. They didn’t just give in to crazy pay cuts like some of the ALPA carriers did and instead mostly called the company’s bluff. Who knows how’s the other carriers negotiations would have turned out if they tried to hold their ground and not give in to some kind of concessions but I appreciate that SWAPA stood their ground.
They could have easily accepted some kind of concessions and just passed it out to the the pilot group to see what the vote would do. But instead they kept their game plan and wouldn’t settle for what the company wanted.
