Without a recovery, it just doesn’t matter. He’s not gonna furlough because that would be ****ing away the one thing that may save this place: the ability to rapidly recover and expand as people travel again.
this is just a throw it out there and see if it sticks maneuver that I hope no one falls for. If we give this 10% it won’t come back till next contract with that clause they so tactfully put in there

I struggle with the concept of not giving anything if ALL other SW employees kick in at least 10%. As long as the one year, 10% concession has a drop dead date and original rates kick back in on 1/1/21, I could go along with it. There cannot be any force majeure for an extension. I would also recommend a snap back if TSA passenger accounts go above 2M. I would also recommend a one time 10% extra pilot bonus the first time the company pays out any executive bonuses, or has an annual net income of $500M. If times are still tough at 1/1/21, and we need to furlough, then so be it.

Before y’all go crazy on me, yes I have been through the regional furlough system in 2009 and I have an MBA. This is not about the money, it is about optics. It currently appears that we are all fine with #savedean as long it is with the company’s money.

No the concession will not be the last dollars that save the company and likely will not be what saves the furlough. It is more important demonstrating participation to receive govt funds and collegiality. We can’t think or portray we are above it all, when other employees are facing similar or greater short falls in their income. If all other groups are participating, we should as well.

We negotiated this contract based on our average lines of 108 trips being equal to our peers. We are currently at min guarantee. We have already taken a 20%ish cut. Not to mention the thousands that have taken larger cuts via early retirements and extended leaves. We have already given.

You’ve already participated, rightseat. How’s that 108 TFP?

edit: Replies so good you get them in stereo. Stop negotiating.

Yep - that is the public reception I thought my comment would get. This is why we have the discussion and have a vote.

Since I felt the sting of 2009, I have financially prepared for this day. I am sitting in the high teens so I am definitely furlough fodder. If the group votes for no concessions and I hit the streets, so be it. However, i think this is a watershed moment with other employees, govt and public perception and the company. 10% for one year will not break me and I would rather be on the right side of all of that. I know not everyone is in the same financial position, but almost certainly the folks with low seniority are not that will be hitting the street.

“IF” SW furloughs it will change the company hiring dynamics forever. Gary knows it and we know it. Many of us came here for the protection we hoped that legacy would provide. Once it is gone, it is gone forever.

You vote your conscience and I will vote mine. I will respect the will of the group regardless of the outcome. I hope you will also.

What are you already voting yes on? What the company is trying to shove down our throat?

In and of itself the manner in which they are going about this is just wrong.

Try telling your wife you’ll be stashing 10% of your paycheck into a personal account and if she doesn’t like it you’ll divorce her.

Did the non-contract employees have the option to take ETO? Many contract employees have been sacrifices since May through the program.

Extended Emergency Time Off for Noncontract Employees will only be offered on an exception basis for specific roles. Management has now asked them for 10% pay cut. Contract employees already agreed to a 50% pay cut through the Emergency Time Off programs.
