Was that a “Public” comment or behind doors with the union?
I’m not saying Gary has not pulled some whoppers, but to stand and publicly (on camera in front of the entire company and county) and say no layoffs in 2021 if we get “X” then I believe he will honor it.

That’s not what GK said, or implied. It was concessions TO NOT FURLOUGH. I would assume if it came to concessions, an understanding that pilots would not be furloughed for X amount of time (say, 2021).
The idea that we would concede, then a month later GK would (with a sinister laugh) furlough anyway Is being paranoid.
The industry as a whole may be like that, but not SWA. If Gary makes a public promise, he will keep it.

Man, there’s just no substantial savings for the company with pilot concessions. The burn rate will eat up whatever we concede in a matter of days. He’s coming after you because he’s a predatory accountant. I’ll tell you what else, he’s gonna wash us all thru bankruptcy if this **** doesn’t settle out by next summer.

And he can hide behind “exigent circumstances” like all of his counterparts did who took the unions to the cleaners in the early 2000’s “to avoid bankruptcy and save the A-plan” only to take them through the cleaners again but this time in bankruptcy court.
I trust Gary to be the predatory cutthroat CEO and I cheer him on when he’s being predatory and cutthroat against our competitors. I also know he’s a predatory cutthroat CEO who wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t try to extract the absolute lowest labor costs. Sorry Gary! I’ll be waiting for my WARN notice around November 1

That flight attendant is saying exactly what the company has told him or her.
When beverage service was first completely suspended and when the modified water-only service started, the company explained it to the flight attendants as JUST THAT - to limit the amount of contact with customers.
Whether you or I or anyone else accept that explanation, it is the company's explanation so it's pretty rude of you, as an outsider, to call one of our flight attendants lazy for quoting it.
I don't even think the company is stocking alcohol on the aircraft right now.
Furthermore, I don't think any of the other U.S. major carriers are serving alcohol in coach right now for the same reason. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on that point.

I believe a second round of airline PSP money will be here before Jan 1. Let’s not look past the posturing (Oliver twist, hat in hand) for congress to act. I have no doubt Gary speaks the truth to how dire things are financially, but securing the PSP money is key and there has to be public threats and action of furloughs, pay cuts, etc to light a fire under the chairs in congress.
If I were in the big chair, I would want to save the companies money (war chest) for the time to pounce and grow while the others are collectively licking their wounds. If we get the PSP money, and things turn around next spring/Summer SWA will be positioned well.
If things are looking dire in Feb, then run a second round of the VSP program.

I’m in the furlough zone and I’m a firm no on pay rate changes. Year 1-5 here is substantially lower than any of the
big three. I knew that coming here, but it was a fair trade with quality of life from elitt and job security, now through no fault of the company this Pandemic has killed those two benefits so pay is all we have and it’s low. Yes it’s 70% captain pay but unless upgrade drops to lower than 5 years that scale is bs.
only way I consider voting yes if is there’s a firm date for snap back say July 1st 2021 with no exceptions. GK has stated we can’t cut routes cOs it will hurt revenue therefor I can’t see how less pilots afford a expanding route structure.

ditto!!! A possible furlough and I say forget it, no concessions.

I think BK is a foregone conclusion for all of the big 4 if we don’t see a significant recovery by next summer. I think all 4 airlines are currently losing around 20-30 million a day each. Absolutely no way that can continue for 8 more months without CH11 (and maybe a CH7)

I can't recall if GK's "we'll shelve the 800" comment was in something the company or the union put out (which was pretty much the same thing back then) or both, but it was definitely said.
Because pilots like shiny new jets, "we" voted to pay (no retro in 2012) to fly the 800 for, effectively, less hourly pay (longer duty days).

Except 1 airline going under would remove all those ASM’s from the market which would be a big boost for the remaining airlines.
