As a SWA Plumber you're going to be up at 3am. Either finishing a PM trip or starting an AM trip...

But what if something crazy happens like United going into bankruptcy or failing? Does EWR become the LCC hub to NYC? Something like that would transform the 121 world.
What happens first is a near decade of airlines struggling to fill those "united next" planes that have already been bought/staffed and planned for, and to do that they ruin yields across the board for all other airlines, ULCC included. In some doomsday scenario, yes, SWA as last one standing could pick up more business, but the net effect for pilots would be bad as a half decade of lousy yields will put a drag on wages. New upstarts will enter as well putting pressure on present day ULCC's to match fares. It's not as clean a kill as you imagine.
