Sure, that was being young and not having career choices, but in my 50s? Nope. Just trying to understand how if things are that bad but the fatigue policy is so good, how this would still be an issue. Sincerely asking.
The problem is that not enough people use it. Otherwise it’s amazing and like the above poster said, almost faultless.

the fatigue policy is decent. What you're describing is scheduling which is horrible.
To me the fatigue policy needs to pay out awarded pay regardless if on a straight or premium trip.
I'd bet fewer than 10% on premium call in fatigued because they dont want to lose pay.

Well, kind of. I’ve run into two pilots who have been pulled in to the CPO to discuss ‘unreliable participation.’ Essentially they broached an invisible trigger point from sick usage/fatigue calls. As far as I know SWAPA represented them and there was no lasting damage…aside from the knowledge they were on management radar.

There is no requirement to fill out a fatigue survey, but each fatigue call in my experience generated 2-3 voicemails (btw, ALWAYS send it to vm) asking me to fill one out.

Prior to showing on Day 1 of a pairing, the fatigue payout is paid from your own sick bank. Once you’ve checked in, it’s SWA paid.

Not sure about the other legacies, but at Delta it is always company paid.

2004/05. Here’s a recap from DFW itself which eventually tried to just get Swa to put longer flights at dfw and offered up $22million in free rent/incentives. Can’t find article about first proposal specifics.

The schedules the last couple of years have turned this place into a sweat shop. Didn’t used to be like this. Never been so tired and beat up after almost every trip. SWAPA is correct in stating that the company refuses to acknowledge that a large number of our pilots are still pushing through, therefore that data is unrecognized.

Yup. I've been rerouted into fatigue calls on premium trips a bunch of times in the last few years. Losing the pay does make one think twice about making the call, which I am sure was/is intentional.

Y’all lose pay if you call FTG for a reasonable reason on premium? Wow, that’s sketchy as hell.

We lose the 1.5 and revert back to straight pay for what is actually flown. Another old school, SWApA WIN! (for the company)

Woah, that’s shocking to me.

That smacks of pilot pushing. I’m pretty surprised that gets past the SWA lawyers.

What was the final outcome for those gates?
