Incidentally, Feds say the Max 7 won't be certified by the end of the year. Which means we are reliant upon congress's willingness to grant an extension to grow the airline.
Hiring may be the least of our worries.

maybe this will be the final push to get us to transition away from 1950s technology. Maybe we will get something wild, like some 1970s tech, to replace it.

This is the feds flexing their "extra scrutiny" because they and Boeing were complicit in the Max crashes and they "HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!"
Congress is already working on a carve out for Boeing and it will be approved, just like the Max 7 and 10 will be. I bet 1Q 2023. Any takers?

I think we'll be flying MAX 7's either way. I don't think the new type rating would amount to more than a quick differences course that can be done in a recurrent or bringing everyone back for a day like they did with the MAX RTS. The difference would be that the bureaucrats would be happy to push more paper and get 10k new "applicants" just from us.

Hell, I’d settle for a VNAV that actually tells you what is really going on….
