Default Need help with mentoring high school student

Greetings,

Allegiant pilot here. I am currently mentoring a 12th grade student from Standley Lake High who's very interested in becoming a pilot. As part of a senior capstone school project, he is required to shadow/volunteer/intern somewhere for 10 hours in the career field that he's interested in.

I would be more than happy to have him shadow me, except for the fact that Allegiant doesn't have much of an operation in DEN. Is there any chance any of you SWA DEN pilots know of any opportunities in flight ops or anything else at your company that this student would be eligible for? He's a good kid so I'm trying my hardest to help him out. If you have any info, please let me know and I can pass along more details. Also any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Former corporate guy here—as a side note, you may want to encourage some face time at the FBOs at Centennial. I often times had plenty of time waiting at the airport and had many conversations with young aviation-interested people, even toured a few corporate jets with them.

Just an idea.

good idea! 91 side is much more accessible. Trying to get someone without a sida/crew badge on the airport property at DIA would be difficult. When I was corporate I could take anyone to show him the plane (except BOS of course....)

If he's in Westminster, BJC would be a better commuting option for him. I know Mountain Aviation at BJC has had high school interns/volunteers working in ops/mx/line. There are also several corporate operations there that may be interested in a volunteer.
