It has been considered, yes. I highly doubt anything will come of it.
The pilots suing Boeing are Air Canada pilots who are not being paid min guarantee during the grounding.

If the 797 ends up being just another stretched reincarnation of the 60's designed 737, many a pilot will be severely disappointed.

I'd take a scaled down 787 as long as they don't end up with yet another cramped cockpit. Or a re-sized, thoroughly modernized, and more efficient 757 or 767. Throw in the latest avionics and power systems, new motors, and a new wing, and that could be a viable modern alternative to the A321 NEO and all the 320 variants.

I’d love to know how hard management is looking at a second fleet type after this, I meant big part of our future business model is on a plane that public has no confidence in. I know a few cheap fares will fix it but it def highlights the vulnerability of being one fleet type operation.

I agree. How would this have played out 4-5 years from now, when we had 200+ on property. 1/4th of our fleet parked? That could trigger the end of SWA.

When all the problems are fixed the 737 will be the safest airplane ever built!
Single type guarantee excellent QoL.

It’s no secret that GK & VDV are “B737 forever”. Per Andrew Watterson....the old guard won’t be around forever.

Default From the 2018 Annual Report

The Company is currently dependent on single aircraft and engine suppliers, as well as single suppliers of certain other parts; therefore, the Company would be materially adversely affected (i) if it were unable to obtain timely or sufficient delivery of aircraft or other equipment from Boeing or other suppliers or adequate maintenance or other support from any of these suppliers, (ii) in the event of a mechanical or regulatory issue associated with the Company’s aircraft or equipment, or (iii) in the event the pricing and operational attributes of the Company’s aircraft or equipment become less competitive.

The Company’s results of operations could be adversely impacted if it is unable to effectively execute its strategic plans.

The Company is reliant on the success of its revenue strategies and other strategic plans and initiatives to help offset certain increasing costs.

Per GK he said they would be looking "very hard" at the A220 when he was at my leadership breakfast (pre max debacle).

My best buddy is a retired DL sim instructor on their new A220's. Once a month he goes to Montreal to do a pre-delivery flight check before heading to ATL.

He texted me this last month when I was in training in June: Guess who's in the building today? I said who? He said....

SWA!

So they are looking at the A220. Supposed to be a decent jet....

I think it not uncommon airlines routinely go see the latest greatest from Boeing and Airbus though....

Just FYI..
