My French is good, thanks for asking.
Quote: "I don’t have an exact decision or timeline on that yet—and we’ll also see what other modifications we might need to make to our plans for this year because it’s obviously extending well beyond what I had hoped."
Hmmm, maybe "strategy" is a word that should not be used when talking about airline management. For that, I stand corrected.

None. The FAA didn’t want so many variants so I think It would be cost inhibitive to get out of the desert and retrain people on them. There’s probably at a minimum 3000 pilots that have never flown the classic

Agreed. Zero chance. It is prohibitive from both a cost and regulatory perspective. Also, customers hated the classics.
It would be fun to fly a “throwback” trip in one, but all the fun I had in a Classic was more than offset by the discomfort, smell, lack of technology, and SA black hole of flying a FMC equipped airplane with no moving map in the weather. Plus, no inflight WiFi? That’s like an emergency these days.

I flew 2 days of my last 3 day in the same airplane with no WiFi.
Row 44 WiFi is great when it works, but so bad when it doesn’t.
If you fly any near international stuff, you will find it works awesome once you get south of CONUS.
I agree, though, having the ability to use 2 Wire for wx is a game changer on long flights. It sucks when you don’t have it.

I don't see furloughs as an option that makes sense. Right now the main attraction to come to Southwest as a pilot over competitors is the stability and history of no furloughs. The other reason is that at some point we will need all these pilots. No sense in amputating your foot for a sprained ankle when your going to need to run a marathon later.
The issue with cancelling classes is that the training center is at capacity when looking at the long term plan. Cancelling new hire classes only makes sense in combination with a deal to reduce the amount of aircraft deliveries. I believe there is a low chance of this as Southwest badly needs these airplanes.
This means that for those of us here, it's going to be crummy for awhile. Based on how July is looking, the fall is going to be pretty grim. I based coming to Southwest on the idea that a 108 TFP month is normal, and 125-140 is easily obtainable. However, my cheese, like many others has been moved. The reality is that once summer is over, making guarantee could very likely be the new normal until the MAX is back. Even with the return of the MAX, the company has clearly decided on having more pilots per aircraft. I hope that SWAPA negotiates industry standard rates based on guarantee and not the 108TFP number thrown around in 2016.
Everyone was over optimistic about the return of the MAX. As the largest operator of the MAX aircraft, we are going to take the most pain. However, the company is still on track for record revenue and profits, and is in a very strong financial position. Hopefully at the upper levels there will be enough initiative and creatively to turn this disaster into a long term win. That could mean doubling down on the MAX, another fleet type, or even both.
If you are thinking of coming to Southwest, I still think this is a great place to work. However, make sure you are coming here for the right reasons such as you live in a base. Don't come here for "culture" or thinking your going to make 150TFP per month, or that you'll advance quickly.

I’d be far more worried about another merger than furloughs. Wall Street’s mantra of ‘If you ain’t growing, you’re dying’ could come bite us in the butt. GK could come out of this as either a genius or retired by the Board for not thinking ahead.
I’d say we better be prepared for another merger.

Maybe we can hold out for a 50% off coupon on our first 100 797s (internal development code name neomaxizoomdweebieXLRNWB).
