Letters of Recommendation
Statement from Pilot Credentials
Southwest Airlines Pilot Requirements:
Letters of Recommendation: At least three letters from any individuals who can attest to the pilot's flying skills, by having observed him/her over a sustained period of time.
Questions: Did people who were invited to an interview attach these recommendations to the pilot credential application or were these needed at the interview? Who did you use? Friends from previous flying jobs or current crew?

I didn't accumulate LORs until I had the interview scheduled. I had a couple of internal recs (no letters) at the time my app was picked. Brought 4 external LORs to the interview and had 6 internal recs, but no letters from them.
I did attach the external LORs to the Pilot Credentials app when I got them.

I hand carried mine to the interview. They don’t care before then. Once you are selected for the interview, anyone at SWA can submit an internal recommendation for you. From what I understand, Recs turn you from a “maybe” to a “yes” post interview, but no rec will turn an interview “ no”into a “yes”.

Thanks for the information. I keep double checking my app as I haven't had any luck getting past the computer selection process. I’m currently flying a Boeing product and have close to 8000hrs. There must be a lot of well qualified pilots in the stack.

My class I thought was pretty diverse backgrounds. Corporate, regionals, Navy, Air Force, from 35-55 years old. Lots of experience all around. Not sure what the magic combo is for the computer to pluck your name, except to keep doing what you are doing. Fly, be a leader, keep the app updated and airtight. Like everything, it is mainly some combination of luck and timing. So good luck!

Don't know how true it is, but I have heard to help get past the computer, your employment history needs to all butt up. Example if you left a job on Aug 9th, your next job on the list needs to start on Aug 9th. Can't really verify this but it's what I heard.

There are always exceptions, but the vast majority seem to have jet PIC, if not 1000+ jet PIC.
Is this something that pops up after getting the interview?
