Don't know if SWA has special ZED agreements, but at most other airlines, the ZED ability doesn't commence until after 6 months of employment.

6 months for ZED on OAL. Online, right away for the hire, 2-5 days for family (although they will say up to 30 days). Have all the docs you need on day one.

Yeah, forgot that. It’s kind of standard.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is that your kids get kicked out of our "industry leading" pass system when they turn 19, unless they're full time students.

You have to provide proof of their full time student status via fax or email. This is the one IT related dept at the company that actually works, because at midnight + .0000001 second on their 19th birthday and every 6 months thereafter, if you didn't update them, they're kicked out.

It doesn't work that efficiently when trying to provide the proof however. It often took me several tries and phone calls to the pass bureau to actually get the status changed.

These days, non revving is such a PITA, that I just buy the family tickets when we go somewhere and I take the jumpseat.

What about military? I know my current airline also permits those on active duty to about age 26.

No clue about military.

I can't recall when ours cuts off entirely (24?), because I gave up on pass riding years ago. I am sure, whatever it is, it's "industry leading".

I grew up an airline brat, and worked for 6 airlines prior, and all had better, easier to use pass privileges than our "industry leading" ones at SW. It wasn't that long ago that you had to fill out each paper pass by hand, and have them signed by your chief pilot before using them. Technically, you had to fill out each leg before he was supposed to sign them, but most had a signature stamp, and would let you stamp out a stack of them, to be filled out at a later time. They used to change the colors every so often, and the old ones were no good, which required another trip to the CP office to stamp another stack. Good times.

No. From the Employee Travel Privilege Policies:

Unmarried Children ages 19 years or older who are not enrolled in an accredited college and who are working full-time in the military are not eligible for pass privileges. Children in this situation are no longer considered dependents and are not full-time students attending an educational institution.

I provided the travel office with their marriage certificate and my birth certificate. It was not an issue at all.
