I well exceed minimums. 13k total.12k turbine.8500 FAR 121 TPIC. Clean record. But only an Associates degree. Have had app in since September with 3 updates since and nothing. I'm one of the good guys that is falling through the cracks because I don't have LCA, IP or CP box checked so the computer will SEE me. Still going to keep trying. I wish something would happen soon because my company is dying and I need to make a change soon.

No. Unlike SW, legacies have their own regional feed to do their high frequency short/medium haul. Their NB fleets tend to have longer stage lengths and less frequency. You can take exception to the term 'regional' but SW routes do tend to be more resembling of a regional than their legacy counterparts.
A friend at SW prefers the high-frequency up and down schedules. He is the one that referred to Southwest as a good paying regional. Good for him, he likes it there and makes great money.
Relax man.

The best gig in this biz is the one that fits you best...whatever that fit is. The happiest pilot I've ever known has been in the right seat at Skywest for 12 years. Refuses to entertain the thought of 'moving up'. Not my cup of tea but I couldn't be happier for him or more proud and impressed he followed his own council. Unlike some senior 787 captains I know, he's very happy...the truest measure of success.
Many a DAL/UAL FO have prematurely envisioned themselves in the left seat, only to find themselves furloughed several times. Trust me. Advise your friends not to spend their future captain pay checks just yet.

This thread reminds me of why APC is such a good resource and yet so dumb.
SWA is fine. So are the other airlines (mostly). Everyone in this business tends to look down the end of their nose at someone in what they deem is a lesser gig. I jumpseat around a lot on other carriers and everyone has their gripers as well as their cheerleaders. I have met some very happy career regional folks along the way. Good for them. What works good for you and yours is where it is at. Trying to chase some sort of golden ring in this business has proven a fools errand.
I personally love it here at SWA, but I can see why some hate the thought of even working here. I still haven't given up my black tie and will fight for the next contract just like I fought for this one.
The best thing we can all do in this profession is realize that we are all in this mess together and try to take care of one another.

This is rich...
Tell me, which regional has first year FO's making well north of 100k a year? Which regional has second year FO's being able to make close to 200k? Or captains being able to make north of 500k? And we're only flying 737's...
Quite frankly, I like the 1000 TPIC requirement. Even with that requirement, people still crash servers trying to get a simple invite to a meet-n-greet. Hope it stays as long as possible.

This post has some great perspective for potential applicants. Do your research on min guarantees, how uncovered flying is awarded, how vacation works, and your ability to "dial it up/down" regarding $$$/block/days worked, commuter policy. Ask those questions next time on JS. Politely ask and compare crew schedule calendars.
If SWA wasn't at the top of your list...it might just change.
Like ZAP posted...do your research...and stack the deck best for you and your family.
Disclaimer #1-It's tough to beat driving to work!
Disclaimer #2- a lucky few have the dilemma of multiple simultaneous offers...otherwise this thread wouldn't exist ...so the old adage of take the first seniority # you can still trumps all.

I'm fine with calling SWA a regional, if that's what y'all want to do. I'll be doing a 5.5 hour transcon today. During that flight I'll ponder how SWA has shown a profit for over 40 years, is the largest domestic carrier, on three days of the week has over 4000 flights, etc.
The 1000 PIC requirement may or may not go away soon. I would worry more about age 67. If that shows up in January, those quick upgrades at the "majors" may stonewall a couple of years.

I don't know why everyone has to be so defensive about their respective company. If you're happy where you are that's all that matters. If you're not happy apply elsewhere because everyone is hiring. Personally I like the flying here at SWA. I can't imagine anything worse than working a 12-16 hour leg crossing 8 or more time zones, even with the luxurious bunks on these planes. I have friends on the 747, 777 and 787 who can't imagine anything worse than flying a 3 day trip with 12 legs (which is actually rare anymore at SWA). I get that. To each their own.
