TPIC rumor

Guys. This division is destructive. It doesn't matter where we came from, we are all here now. In 3 years we are going to have to begin negotiating another contract and we need to be together, on the same page, unified and strong with a common goal. We can not do that if we divide ourselves into cliques and subgroups. There is no more AirTran or Morris, no more civilian or military. There is only SWAPA. Leave the past behind you.

I would add however that when I did the above it was handflown without a flight director at high speeds.

The No TPIC requirement is a glimmer of hope for some of us folks that have never had the chance to upgrade, because of furlough, bankruptcy or layoffs at the regionals. Over 10 yrs experience flying 121 with a regional and a mid-level major might give some of us a little chance with Southwest HR and a look at our application this time around.

If it makes you feel any better, I was in the same boat before 9/11. Except I was working for a major as a 737 FO. Had been there about 3 years.
Didn't have 1000 PIC turbine so after 9/11 when I was furloughed, I just wasn't qualified to compete for any of the jobs that remained. It sucked! Took the better part of the lost decade just to build that PIC turbine so I could finally compete for one of those jobs.
(Ended up not accepting the recall for a variety of reasons. One of them was that I still didn't have the PIC turbine and didn't want to be right back where I started)
So you aren't alone. There are a lot of us in our mid-40s to early 50s just trying to pick up where we left off in 2001.

I've been to several jobs fairs for various airlines and the not having TPIC time has always been brought up and why I never upgraded. One look at my resume and my previous employers should give most HR/Recruiters an idea, assuming they keep up on what's going on at other airlines. Will see what happens with SWA...
