If any SWA guys are willing to post a screen shot of something they'd consider a "typical" month's schedule with how many TFP it paid, that would be very helpful. Understandable if that's not possible without giving away too much personal info, though.

Two days
Desirable 20-24 hour intl layovers (PUJ, AUA, SJD, LIR)
Weekdays

The turns and two day trips are usually bid to give away to another pilot so that the bidder can clear their board and fly premium (1.5x) low blocking open time instead. On the FO side they are often bid by Lance Captains (captain qualified FOs) who give them away and fly captain trips instead.

Other than that, I would reiterate what Zap said. There are a huge variety of trips here that fit within the Southwest productivity model. There aren't any 30 hour layovers or stand up red eyes (yet) but there is just about everything in between.

This job isn't some sort of paradise. There are many things that I would love to see changed, but the opportunity to either make a boatload of money or have a lot of days off exists here depending on what you want to do.
Great stuff.

Is picking up "low blocking open time" desirable because you are going to be paid 6.5 TFP per day at a minimum, or are there other factors?

Trying to get my head around all of this...class date in May.

So you mean to tell me that your lines average 20 days off and credit 120? That's not what my buds at SWA show me. Their raw lines look like they average about 85-90 TFP and work about the same amount of days (13-17). I know... then they start their part-time job of schedule adjustment, which seems like it's a full time job sometimes. Always checking their phone, always trading trips. Even when they have a good schedule, with days off, they are always flying extra. The big question is "what do you block in a year?" That average line I was talking about (15 days off/75 CH) blocks about 38 hours. You guys like to say that you work hard but get more days off, but I just don't see it looking at what my friends' schedules look like. My I have a small population for my data. Four.
As pointed out this is simply not the case. 15 days off minimum for reaserve. If you fly everyday on reserve with 15 days off you should be well north of 100tfp. Most lines are constructed with 16-19 days off between minimum guarantee and just over 100 tfp.

I had 14 days off in February with a credit of 125. Full disclosure that one of those trips was a JA so that bumped my credit up a bit. I'm at 15 days off this month with 125 tfps as well. This month should have been better but I was unable any premium bc I am junior and I had to emergency drop the last part of a trip so I lost 5 TFPs. This is pretty normal for life around here. My original line award was 18 days off with with a credit of 90, so yes I did a little trading but nowhere near a full time job.

Sorta...
Rigs are a part of it and paid deadheads, especially at the beginning and end of a trip is also part of it. You can really work some of that to your advantage.
Some open time trips block 6-8 and pay 20. When you fly a trip like that, you stay legal for more flying if you desire or you just have a relaxing trip. Both are a win in my opinion.

Next month my awarded line was 15 off and 114 credit. I was awarded a blank so lost a day off and had higher credit than a regular line. Regular lines have 16 off min and avg in my base was 98 credit if I remember right. Min of 3 days off between trips and I have a stretch of 6 off before Easter.

I'll take them! The great thing about those is they always end in a LIR overnight.
They are stopping that route in a couple of months, though, sadly.
