Our "contract" has little to do with it. Our parent company sent an airline out pasture and they have every right to be livid. Sure, yea, it's capitalism and they got too expensive. Heck it was mostly mainline's call, but these guys have a bone to pick and...well...here we are.

I'll cut them a break for a great many things. But not taking it out on people trying to jumpseat, who had nothing to do with the underlying issue

Agreed. No matter what would happen to my company and career, I wouldn’t take it out on someone trying to get to and from work to support their family. That’s taking it out on the wrong person. No pilot wants bad things to happen to pilots at other regionals. It isn’t the commuting pilot that’s hurting you, it’s the company.

Yes, express jet captains have denied skywest pilots jumpseats for no other reason than being “SkyWest”. Pathetic? Yes!
Obviously express jet senior captains don’t understand that a regional isn’t a place to spend a career (blah blah 9-11 blah blah) instead of updating their resumes they’d rather **** and whine (and deny jumpseats) than actually work on improving their personal situation.
That being said ANYONE thinking of coming to ANY SkyWest INC company (SkyWest or ExpressJet) should be punched in the genitalia for a wake up call! Skywest is one of the lowest paid in all of the industry and express jet is being shrunk unimaginably. Endeavor, Republic and AA WO’s offer more than Skywest Inc will ever offer any pilot! West coast base 175 you say? Go to compass! You’ll make more money!
If you want min days off with no ability to adjust your schedule, for industry lowest pay welcome to SkyWest.

The situation will correct itself. Skywest is not immune to the staffing issues that other regionals are experiencing. It may not have hit us as bad yet but it is coming.
Skywest has used a few unique methods of recruiting now as times have gotten tough, and those too are coming to an end.
We are quickly becoming the new Mesa. Unfortunately for Skywest, once you get that reputation, it is difficult to recover from. But who knows, maybe that’s what they want.

Yep. I am previous 121. When I came to SkyWest. I found it odd that part of the culture here was to always trash on Mesa. Like SkyWest is somehow high and mighty and better than everyone, especially Mesa. I got on line and quickly learned that that is not the sentiment of the average line pilot. That attitude in the training department and of the new hires around me turned me off. SkyWest is the new Mesa. But the Kool Aid in Utah blinds the lifers and the squatters. A regional is a regional, SkyWest used to be one of the better ones. But things always change. And they change quickly. Skywest has fell behind the curve. I’ve found most SkyWesters Denver and West are just completely oblivious to what’s going on in the industry. Just stuck in their little 1990s bubble happy that someone is letting them fly a jet.

Good Christ, somebody finally gets it!

Now, basically the lowest pay scales (minus 10% for the block to credit bs from the published pay scale).

No time off!

No contract!

Most of training is now self taught but you get to double bunk, yea!

Most pilots fired in the industry!

What’s not to like?

But hey, at least my family thinks I work at Southwest...so there's that. Even half the controllers do!
