Ya. I figured the last batch of the “100” would be fall 2018-2019. We alread took on 60 in 2017 have 42 announced for 2018.. they need to be spread out or will have serious staffing issues...

FINALLY. Even if I’m not getting relief in my schedule, at least it’s a relief to hear you say something that doesn’t put the company on a pedestal. You’ve been blasting about “full classes every time you walk through the schoolhouse”.
We are biting off more than we can chew and very soon it’s going to be painfully obvious to the company.

Somehow “I told you so” never feels as good as I would like it to.

I wonder how we could possibly solve this impending staffing issue .......
Oh I know! Let’s lock ourselves into a 5 year contract with a 1% raise while everyone else makes meaningful increases. That should keep people coming in the door...

For 2017 we had a net gain of 439 pilots.. what will 2018 hold..??.. but maybe some relief if we only take on 42 aircraft and keep up the aggressive hiring. I suspect that attrition will remain high as the Majors start picking up the pace...how much money they trow at us is the real question....

I think the damage is done, it will be a revolving door now of low timers with no interest in SKYW other then 121/PIC and get out. I can't blame them, even the lowest paid LCC First Officers are making more then a senior RJ Captain.

Not quite. A very senior SKW CA would be making $150K. That would take 5-10 years at the worst of the LCC's. No way was I taking a five+ year pay cut.

What's wrong with that model?

Keeps average unit cost low so SGU can afford all the lifers and throw them a 401(k) bone when it comes to vote in the next sub-par TA.

Its a numbers problem. We have 4560 pilots. And lost 49 pilots in December.. thats just going to be normal attrition going forward.. what do we compare % wise to Other airlines. Probably close or less..
