On the CRJ there was always a lot of open time and FOs posting trips for cash; I have not found that to be the case at all on the ERJ.

I've been consistently getting 28-30 hour 4 day trips. That's how I make my $. I don't do anything fancy.

I'm 2016 CRJ FO new hire.
First 12 calendar months got around $46K, that gross including profit sharing bonus and per diems. No new hire bonus for me, and that's all on old pay scale. And I wasn't flying that much, only very last month as a line holder, first 11 in training or on reserve. Block time 570 first 12 month.

2017 year to date $56K, most of the year on a second year pay.
Again, I'd not say I was flying too much, block time so far around 700. Just work around the system as much as I can.

The key in making money for me as a junior FO here were:
1. Be on a CRJ side,
2. Live in base
3. Be aggressive on picking up OT trips aka SchedPlus Open Time automated alerts
4. Know the PBS, try to work the system, for example displaced for IOE and flying with LCA are something that not too much FO utilized as much as they should IMO.
5. If you live in DEN (or LAX and SLC starting December 1) be Aspen qualified, it's open up whole bunch of trips especially during winter and summer high seasons, and significantly helps in negotiating with Crew Scheduling when you need to move/repace some awarded trips.

I can see you all talking about the pay which is a bit of a downer
Don't let that get you down. The first thing you learn in this biz is that pilots will complain about pay no matter what.
Welcome aboard, a roof yes but not sure about netflix.

Including PER DIEM and "aggressive" pick up to brag about clearing 65k...ha, now that's funny. So, what you are really saying is the average FO who just fly's their line should clear around 50k a year as second in command of a 50 million dollar jet with 80 lives on board - roughly what a server or bartender at Applebee's makes.. your pay is garbage, and y'all voted in another 1 percent a year for 5 years when the ball was clearly in your court. And once again, other carriers are drastically raising the bar and SKYW management and the student council will surely run to the table in 12-18mos to coat tail... Some things never change...

Would we be talking a whole lot of months on reserve? If so I'd go somewhere with quicker reserve. Don't have any ties to anywhere, so can pretty much go where ever I am needed / wherever I want.

I would however like to bring my wife over asap and I'd imagine that a reserve wage is comparably low to holding a line? Would be be able to afford a roof and netflix?

I can see you all talking about the pay which is a bit of a downer. I'm starting in about 4 weeks. As someone transitioning from a C210 I felt like Skywest has the best training and the best visa support... To answer your question, yes, yes I am.
Denver will probably take you anywhere from 7-10 months from your date of hire for the crj. I believe 2 ERJ guys just got Denver out of training but surely that was just an anomaly. Anyway who knows how senior the new Denver Aspen base will be because that good be a boon for someone trying to get to DEN as a new hire.

Did anyone see that United announced hiring 2000 over the next 32 months? Obviously that number has bounced around a lot for a while while they get everything put back together over there. But I was thinking maybe this would put pressure on hiring departments across the board. Good news? or am I just a glass half full kinda person?

Yep! Thank god haha. What will happen when 100 captains leave per month? No Bueno for SGU. Also I am hearing that Republic may be giving their pilots a raise? Anyone know how significant? Hopefully it's measurable.

Keeping butts in seats is going to be real challenge for any Regional. I think the ones that survive will have some kind of orderly progression for their pilots to transition to a mainline carrier. Those that don't will suffer and shrink.
Just my two cents.

As long as no regional pilot moves ahead of any mainline pilot's seniority.
