Just curious, why would you like to know, Student1? In the "olden" days, it was hard landing an interview at regionals like American Eagle without a 4-year degree. Nowadays...they will hire someone with two DUIs and felonies to boot.

To make it easier...what's the percentage of pilots with degrees, without and Associates or Bachelors?
I've flown with pilots without degrees and guys with masters degrees and everything in between. Mostly guys with 4 year degrees, all different kinds of majors.

[QUOTE=Duesenflieger;2338405]Maybe your attitude bespeaketh why.... You come into this thread accusing SKYW pilots of hurting your livelihood when in reality a select few of SKYW Inc. management are to be blamed.[/QUOTE

Hey man I didnt have an attitude until those guys gave me a hard time about being dedicated to my company for almost 2 decades. I simply came here to see what the pilot group at my parent company was like and how they felt. Unfortunately I think I came across the only two dbags here.

Default Swapping reserve days

New FO here on the ERJ, ORD base. New to reserve life and full of dumb questions...I'll start with one:

Any tips for being able to swap reserve days with another pilot, or is that something which is happening at all right now? (Goal: Ideally I'd like to swap such that I can get 5 days off in a row one time this month).

From what I see, SkedPlus+ doesn't support anything related to reserve swapping. The PPM says it's allowed, but doesn't discuss logistics.

Would I already need to have coordinated myself with another pilot who is willing to swap, or does CS keep some kind of running list of reserve swap requests (seems unlikely)?

I was thinking I could call also CS to ask if I could cover a day where their reserve coverage is lower in order to get the days off I'd like?

Thanks guys.

Just wondering how long Reserve is for the ERJ at ORD?

You have to call CS and they will move reserve days if it benefits them. If you are moving a reserve day from a day with higher coverage to a day with low coverage then you may be successful. They also like to move reserve days if you have a lone reserve day and you want to put it with a block of other reserve days. They like you to have 4-6 days of reserve in a row. It doesn't do much for them if you only have 1 reserve day by itself.

So most SkyWest pilots have no issues going to United mainline?
Don't most of United's new hires come from SkyWest?

That's not what he said at all. SkyWest pilots come from every background and have different hiring requirements than mainline.

You've been told this before and I hate to do it, but I'll say it again... you need to focus on your education, learning how to fly an airplane, and then come back here in 4 years. None of this matters to you right now.

We got stranded at the regional level because of 9/11..the 08 meltdown and the age 65 thing. After all those years we became senior guys at a decent company. We make fair money, weekends off, holidays off, and decent vacation time. Thats where the apprehension to move on stems from. Again, it wasn't meant as an attack towards your pilot group.
I'm your generation, I get all that. I don't care what SGU does to anybody, because I have no control over that. If they had asked me, I would have told them not to go buying up other regionals, but they didn't ask.

We don't necessarily like everything the company, or the regional model, does to us either. But regional pilots are temps at best, and you cannot ever forget that. If it suits you to work as a temp, and you have the ability to sustain yourself financially if/when they replace you with some cfi who's worked at mesa for 20 months then that's your choice. Generally the regional with the best pay and contract is next on the chopping block.

But if you hope for six figures AND stability in the airlines you need to move on to the majors. No guarantees there of course, but the odds are sure better.

Go to college for the degree, to study, have friendships, and enjoy the once in a lifetime opportunity.....not to get hired at United. You're just trying to pick a road someone else paved. Pave your own path, study what you want to study, and focus on getting your certificates. You're doing all this research WAY to early. Focus on the aerodynamics of a Cessna, not what regional has the best domiciles?

Also, the majority of our pilots go DL and LUV, not UAL
