What was the pilot bonus today for? I've been here over a year and less than two. I got a very small bonus on February 10 I think. Can someone explain the bonus system and when they are paid out?

Thats the "pilot" profit bonus.. essentialy we get 6 bonus checks a year...

Every quarter all employees get a financial bonus. That starts after two years.
Performance and financial bonuses are combined in one check.
Pilots also get pilot profit sharing twice each year.
So six bonus checks each year.
This assumes operational goals are met and skywest is profitable.

It's been known for a while that United 700s are going away. 18 will be left over for ASE flying and maybe a few other routes here and there is what I've heard. With that the IAH based is completely decimated unless the E-175 comes to IAH. They're only staffing it until the United 700s are completely done for. With Republic, and Mesa doing so much 170/175 flying in IAH I don't see SkyWest opening a 175 base there anytime soon, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen one day.
With that 700/900 flying is really only in the bases with Delta and American flying now. PHX is switching to almost all 700. ORD is getting 700 heavy as they do Eagle 700 and Delta 700/900 flying. DTW is starting to do 900 flying, and within a few months should really ramp up with 700/900 flying. DEN CRJ has been winding down. Your best chance is Aspen flying for the 700. Otherwise it's almost all 200 flying with a smattering of United/Delta 700 flying. SEA/SLC also have a good amount of Delta 700/900 flying. MSP I can't speak to too much, but they do have 7/9s. TUS/PSP/COS all have a SMALL amount of United 700 flying and soon it'll almost all be gone. American just announced American Eagle 700s operated by SkyWest will be doing ORD-COS twice daily. If they let COS crews do that it could mean more 700 flying for the base. COS has been steady for the last few years in terms of size. It hasn't grown or shrunk, but 700 pairings reduced a fair amount after schedules scaled the 700 back in January.
If you hate the 200, and you need your big shiny jet either do CRJ in a base that is 700/900 centric, or go to the E175. I highly recommend the CRJ as far as being a challenging aircraft with some good character building qualities. Build time more quickly, and upgrade time is lower and it would be a lot easier to upgrade to the CRJ if you were on that as opposed to the E-175.
As far as the new Alaska 175 routes. Well until Horizon gets the 175 program fired up it will all be SkyWest. Once Horizon's 175 house gets set up those new routes will go back more to Horizon of the newest announced routes.
Take everything I said with a grain of salt, but there you go...

Also E135/145s are leaving the sister company ExpressJet.
Will United Express be strictly E170/175s in the future?

The other two operators flying 700s for United are GoJet and Mesa. Once the remaining 700s are removed from United flying at SkyWest and the last of the E175s arrive for Republic, SkyWest, and Mesa, United will be scoped out on large RJs.
Of course, by the time you finish your training and get enough time to come to the 121 world, it will look completely different.

200s and 700s will still be around. The 700s are the only planes that can currently do some of the mountain airports such as Aspen. The 200s will definitely be around for awhile. United just granted Air wisconsin a contract for 50 200s and 15 options (this will replace mostly E145s).

If you can figure out what UA express plans are you should go tell United... they don't know either...

Who's got some good rumors on the new Alaska E175 routes announced today out of San Diego? Horizon or SKW?

SW added 5 E175s this year with plans for 6 more. Mesa plans to add 12 more E175s this year. Republic plans to add 12 more E175s this year. Unless Mesa or Republic cannot deliver, or another airline looks for SW to supply E175s, our growth in the E175 this year will be front-loaded.
CRJ200s, CRJ700s, and ERJ145s are exiting.
