Sim instructors make good money, but the job is only available to captains. They do work doubles. It would be years before the position would be available to a new hire.

Enlighten me then oh tax expert. 48% withheld. Get about half of that back in April. A bonus does not count as income. All these ads and recruiting ploys are claiming "60k" first year blah blah blah. They are counting the bonus and even republic is counting per diem as income.

Also, the packet states that all transportation will be provided to required training. If one wanted to go in on a weekend etc, flight safety etc, would you recommended trying to get a car there, or just can it etc? Sorry for the questions if they seem stupid, got a class date and am trying to figure everything out. Anybody that has any tips for training, ( food, what to wear, what to do, what to not do, etc) please feel free to pm me ) thx again everyone, merry Christmas
If you are going to SLC for new hire it will most likely candlewood. Not terrible, one of you gets your own space while the common area has bed in it for the other guy. In sim you each get your own room. I you are able to i would highly recommend a car. It will help your sanity to not be tied to the hotel, also just to run to the grocery store whenever you want. The rooms have a kintchen-ette so you can prepare meals. Good Luck

There are plenty of sim instructors who are FOs, they do CTP and FTD, not sure of the schedules or pay.

How they are withheld and how they are taxed are 2 very different things. How is a guaranteed bonus not income? I'm not arguing the merits of going to one of these places that are having to throw all kinds of money at new hires, but bonuses are taxed the same as any other income.

OK, I realize this may be the first real job for many of you but taxation is not that difficult of a concept.

All earned income is taxed at the same rate – regardless of how it is being paid out. Whether you call it wages, bonus, tips or something else is pure semantics (and even some per diem is taxed as income).

The only thing that varies may be the withholding rate. The IRS basically withholds money because (1) they don’t want to give you an interest free loan and (2) they probably worry that you spend it all before they can collect it.

And btw, you can tune your withholding to whatever you want it to be. Just dial up the exemptions on your W4. You can claim as many as you want…. Just make sure you don’t owe too much at the end of the year or the IRS collects a penalty for that interest free loan you created.

Regardless the same tax rate applies to all earned income when it is all reconciled on 4/15.

Oh and about pay, just checked my pay stub, I am on track to make $45k income first year. That was before training pay was changed to reserve guarantee pay. And beginning Jan 2017, we get 1.5% raise to hourly rate. So it's not bad by any means.
