Seriously.

Don't bother with the career events (i.e. spending any of your own $). Apply online.
So it's a rather quick process..... Good, that's what I was hoping. Thanks!

Alright, so I'm pretty frustrated, how is it that my classmates in more senior bases can hold lines but I cant hold a line in the second most junior base (msp). If I were to commute to SFO or DTW which would be easier from MSP? Dtw has more flights but seem to have a lot more commuters. Sfo is far, but the time change could work in my favor...ideas?

If you live in MSP.. wouldn't you rather stay there? I'm on month four of commuting to reserve in MSP now, counting November anyways. But really.. you'd rather commute to a line that be on reserve where you live? Here in Denver I cannot wait until that's a reality. Although, they keep OBRing me to DEN.. it'd be too nice to get a transfer here.

Double edged sword. They hold lines because there's 0 reserve staffing at these other bases. If you're ok with that, then transfer. I would never willingly commute.

I'm considering it because I want to build time. Impossible to fly over 40hrs a month on reserve unless you pick up stuff on off days, most of which doesn't line up for me. I'm too junior to hold a line, but too senior to fly a lot on reserve...even with call first on.

So my question then becomes, why don't they put new hires at these other bases? Or allow line holders in MSP to fly less?

Right there with you. I just sit there for days up there never to fly. But honestly.. really think about commuting if you haven't done it yet. Just give it a few more months and I'm sure you'll have a less than ideal line. Enjoy the time, and try and be productive.

Because they can just OBR.. hence my post about DEN. I'm OBT here now taking care of the home enjoying life. So different than being in MSP on reserve

The last award did show new hires getting basically any choice of base.. aside from the Colorado bases and IAH. Still not enough for reserve staffing

Because that's the way we've always done it.

If you spread the reserves, people will be able to drop. By keeping them all in one base, only one base can drop, and they can OBR people to other bases to have coverage, while not allowing people to drop.

You dig?
