Hey guys, can anyone please tell me how feasible would it be for a new hire to get PDX out of training? If so, what airplane would this be in? What's the reserve like there?
Sorry if it was already asked, I looked but I didn't find the answer.
Thanks!

PDX will soon be ERJ only. Plan on a month or 2 in ORD before getting to PDX, but that is changing rapidly. Current junior guy was hired in January so likely did 3 or 4 months of commuting. The base is growing, as is SEA, so that time is shrinking fast.

Logan square, bucktown (Cumberland too but not a lot to do walking distance around and not as nice as the other two)is where most airline people live if you want a train ride in. Schaumburg is affordable but you'd have to probably drive.

Park Ridge is nice. Jeff park is cheap as well but not a lot going on out there except residential. Personally, I'd stay away from anywhere northwest of the Belmont stop. Not my cup of tea.

Just since you're on the topic of ORD living, two questions.
1. Is Evanston an easy/tough commute to the airport, and how expensive of an area would that be?
2. In the interest of lower taxes, less tolls, cheaper property, etc., does anyone just live in southern WI and make the commute? Would you recommend that or is it not worth it?

Lower Wisco is too far of a drive. I like 1 hour from employee parking with traffic and I am in the the Grayslake area. Lower lake county is about as far north as you want to go, but that county has ridiculous property tax. If you go west, Lake in the hills and Crystal lake provide low taxes and decent property.

I am not referring to the south side of Chicago , I am referring to the south suburbs , oak lawn , hickory , palos , lagrange , etc i have lived in the south suburbs for 20 years and your statement of crime is false . If you lived in one of those suburbs you would probably know not just assume .
