I wouldn't go that far. But I am surprised how this pilot group doesn't have enough self respect to ask for pay equal to productivity. It's like a battered spouse. "I know he loves me so I'll take less than I'm worth"

We don't have any negotiating leverage. We have no union and we're operating in the shadow of all those who recently took REAL and MASSIVE concessions to get flying. There wouldn't have been a second offer any time soon IMO. I suspect the company wanted us to vote no so they could continue the CURRENT pay freeze for EVERYBODY and stall for another year. Maybe we'll have have leverage when the pilot shortage hits them in the shorts. Or maybe not, they can only pay us so much when we're already paid well above the bottom feeders we're competing with for flying.
I don't even think it comes down to leverage, it will come down to their need to incentive people to come work here and to stay working here.
I could be wrong but that's how I see it now. I've said before that I'm not impressed with this package. Basically I felt bad for Bro FO's. Give 'em some beer money and try again in a year when (maybe) conditions are more favorable.

Because the agreement is only 1 yr long, it Seems to me like they basically just raised the benchmark from where they start their long term negotiations. In this market, at least it wasn't concessions in exchange for airframes

That WAS our leverage! Now the company has what they need to keep staffing where they need it to be

Actually they never got to vote on the first offer. The newly appointed union called ALPA was so kind as to turn the offer down at the MeC level thus not giving the pilots a chance to vote on it. That's when GK came in and threw the weight around.

As to the yes vote, it was a double edged sword. Say no and you are at a pay freeze. Say yes and you get a slight bump on some A/C for a year. But you are still getting new aircraft, taking over EAS for lakes, spread out over lots of majors, ons of money in the bank, and who knows what management is coming up with in regards to the XJt no vote.
At this point I would be happy you were offered anything in the black instead of the major kick in the shorts the XJt guys were offered. Had they voted yes, you would have very likely seen a much less generous offer.
