With 800+ million in the bank, this could continue for years and years... and that is assuming these "losses" were coming straight out of the bank. They're not. These losses also won't continue. Once hiring is caught up, all the heavy maintenance and painting is done (quit changing your colors, United...), these expenses will start to subside.

A month ago I would have thought this. But with United and the lease company agreeing for cuts, something good could be on the horizon. Depends what United wants. From what I was told today, United likes the Q operation and wants more of them. Give up the Saabs, add more Qs, and voila! You get a better and more efficient operation with only 2 types of a/c. CRJs and Qs.
For example only (no specific numbers): United pays 9E $500 per flight under old contract (9E loses money). New contract United pays $1000/flight (United loses money). If we get more Qs it becomes more efficient, then United AND 9E can still make money getting paid $800/flight and both parties are happy.
