What length is the abbreviated training for type rated guys? Is it only a few sims less with full ground school, oral etc?

Right on bro! You have your moments when you are funny as hell... That was one of them! And the company would be proud for incorporating your WANT in there! Way to mitigate, you've obviously lived this dream before!

There's nothing to walk to! The training center is miles away because you have to go all the way around the airport perimeter. There's no place to get decent lunch at the training center (maybe a roach coach, maybe not)! I would rent a car if I had to. If you live anywhere within a very long day's drive of SLC do yourself a favor and take a road trip. Try some back roads, there's some scenic stuff out west. Otherwise you'll have to latch on like a leech to someone who has a car, or hang out at the candlehood the whole time.

but it's much nicer having a car if you can help it. especially when the hotel shuttle isn't there at the end of the day.
