I'm calling BS on this.

There is no route that Alaska requires greater than 50nm from any rock in the ocean. Even anchorage to Dutch doesn't need that. Especially considering the water temps it would require a raft etc, not just simply inflatable vests like in the Carribean. The only route needing it would be SEAPDX to western Alaska and even then they would hug the coast just like they do Florida/Nassau flying from IAH.

I'm not shooting down the Alaska flying rumor, just the over water certification being tied to any of it.

Same with Baja California but perhaps you can save money going direct vice following the coast.

flying from the West Coast to Alaska will take you more than 50nm from the coastline. If you aren't overwater equipped you have to stay in closer which results in a longer route.

Even alaska airs not dumb enough to expand a regional up here beyond what horizon already flys, it would be business suicide, pen air and ravn would align with delta, deltas already expanding up here, I'm sure they would love the feeder business from the bush that those to bring to alaska, nope I'd say the board room at alaska air group isn't that dumb

Yes. That's what I said. SkyWest has historically chosen to hug the coast, burning more fuel, than pay to equip, train and maintain the EOW planes.

That's why I called it BS.

Miami to the islands would be nice.
