Unfortunately in this industry that doesn't mean much, some places have hired then furloughed almost immediately. We do have attrition right now so I would guess were purely hiring for that. I move up roughly 28-32 numbers a month which just happens to be about how many are in a new hire class each month.

The best predictor of future performance is past performance. I'm not naive enough to suggest it can't happen, but it would not be in line with 42 years of historical data.

They got really heavy on pilots a few years back and offered leave of absences of up to a year and they also dropped the min number of hours required per month.

I would invest in SkyWest. They consistently turn a profit, manage liabilities, have established long-term contractual revenue sources, and pay regular dividends.
Barring a major economic catastrophe, I don't foresee these solid fundamentals changing anytime soon. I'll concede they may lose market share, but market domination rarely provides significant economic benefit with the notable exceptions of monopolies and cartels. For the time being, SkyWest has significant CPA's under contract into the next decade.
