Skywest

I used to range from $110-120,000, but that's my point (and it sems Skywest is joining Eagle in soon having to confront that as per their hideous projected quarterly losses). The typical narrowbody mainline captain will be seeing about $150,000 in annual pay and that's for about 140 seats. A 70 seater can't generate enough revenue to pay a pilot $100,000 and in the future look for a sobering correction in senior regional pilot pay.
You may make that today, but I'll bet in 5 years you won't. The typical 76 seater will pay about $75,000 for a 12 year captain within the next 5 years.

See, the problem though, is that the industry has changed. It has changed so drastically, that airlines, both regional and legacy, are only out for one thing, and one thing only: $$, Thats it. These executives are the worst. In what other industry, can you tank an airline into the ground and walk away with millions in your hand? It's unreal. Banking is the next one on the list. These airlines just want to make money and the executives are the worst ones, but the best at it. Are we worth the 40g's that we make per year as pilots? No. Hell no. We deserve more. But will more come to us? No. Even the unions can't get us that money we deserve. It's amazing how things get "recalculated" to reduce the amount that pilots get paid. It's amazing how much they charge paying passengers to check bags and to sit standby just to take an earlier flight. Where is our cut of all this? And where the hell is my upgrade? Were are MY bonuses? Why did "capitalism" allow for executives to be able to make all the money and the pilots collect foodstamps? How (this is the one true question) do we get the money from the executives and spread it to the employees? How does the airline take all the profits and still show a loss and have the balls to ask for concessions from flight crews? We have to change it. I bet ANYTHING that if one big massive strike happened, then all would change. Is that feasible? No. But it's fun to think about.

Regardless. Any ideas regarding upgrade at skywest? What about a CLT base? Whats the latest rumors?

No new bases, upgrades are running through the year in small classes. Emb runs junior with about 4.5 years to get it and 6 for a CRJ seat. I'd expect new hire FOs won't see the left seat for at least 6 years.

Well at some point the upgrade time will decrease by 2 years overnight with the stagnation in hiring that they had.

I certainly don't think we'll experience the days of 18 month upgrades here any time soon (if ever), but I also don't agree with the six year upgrade. It's less than that now, and there has been hardly any movement in three years. Basically it makes about as much sense as somebody in 2006 saying upgrades are going to continue to be 18 months for the next several years.

The fact that you think you can foresee events in this industry 6 years into the future is hilarious!
Don't you know that long-term planning in the airline world only goes out about 18 months? If you think you can see anything any farther out with any degree of certainty you are just kidding yourself!

When I was hired it was six months to upgrade. And that was in '08. Now, I would imagine that it's still a couple of years out. If they are only at 27k numbers for the upgrade to the RJ, then it's still going to be a little far out. I havn't seen any upgrades to the EMB lately though, are they still doing those?

Obviously I can't predict the future. Current attrition and growth doesn't support a quick upgrade for a new-hire FO, but exactly what that number is remains to be seen.
Would I like to see upgrades trend junior? Yes, I need as many guys junior to me in the left seat as possible.
