So I'm looking for some advice on making a decision between types, and also the pros and cons between ORD and DEN as a base choices. I'm leaning more toward the CRJ for more base flexibility, but I know ORD is already a 175 base, with SFO next I believe? Any rumors or theories about more 175 bases? is DEN a possibility being a large United hub?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
Welcome! When is your August class? Some of us on here might be joining you as transitions if you elect to take the CRJ. From everything I've heard, DEN is rumored as the next ERJ domicile after SFO gets up and running. Recently I've heard LAX popping up as the one to follow DEN but the LAX rumor is just that; a rumor so take it with a big grain of salt. I would expect new hires to sit reserve on the ERJ for quite some time because as the fleet grows, and if (a big IF) we get more flying for it, I can see it going more and more senior. It pays (slightly) better and will likely have better schedules as the flying grows for that fleet which means better trips. The CRJ certainly offers flexibility now and you can still always transition in a couple years if you feel drawn to the ERJ side. Cons to the CRJ would be that we have a HUGE number of -200s and that is a dying fleet. Given that the Airways and American Eagle flying contracts will come up due in the near future (next couple of years) the fleet may shrink.

I hope this helps, welcome to SkyWest, if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!

I chose the 175 in August class. Hopes of getting DEN eventually. I know it may be awhile but it would make for an easier commute coming from central ks out of hays or Wichita. Plus having family in Denver. I'm flexible though. Pay the dues.

Hmm... Pick a plane without a DEN base or one with a current DEN base. I think the one that doesn't is a better choice. SJS anyone?

Yeah that's a good question. I just don't know. I'll find out I guess haha.

DEN and ORD are junior on the CRJ and you'd hold a line almost right away. We have no reserves. On the 175 you're going to commute to reserve for 2 years for less pay (line holder pay vs reserve guarantee). I don't think I would have made the same choice as you.

Thanks, yeah I just didn't know. I'll make the best of it. If it works out great, if it takes a while, it is what it is. I'll take it all in.
